Several sport's books are reporting that NASA ground cameras have spotted an Eagle insignia on the balloon suggesting the CCP may have obtained videos of of the Chiefs practice sessions as it passed over Kansas City and the Eagle organization might be paying big money to obtain it.

This is incredibly stupid and wasteful by the Chinese. If they want secret, classified or sensitive data about anything, just go ask any member of Congress or any past or present President. They’re bound to have something laying around of value.

actually, it’s been a resounding propaganda success for China.

For the record… I was more impressed with the 2 balloons of the Chinese babe in the bathtub! I certainly would have volunteered to shoot them down.

She’s Japanese….and don’t Google Hitomi Tanaka…

The longer the balloon stayed aloft above the US, the more info was gained from a DOD perspective. Shooting it down while over the country made no sense and was most likely never the plan. Tracking it did as there was a chance it would have exploded on its own anyway and easily found given the interest in it.

These probing operations happen all the time and the Chinese certainly learned something about our capacity to identify this type of object. We learned a great deal as well starting with when it was discovered, at what altitude, etc. etc.

It would be interesting to know when it was identified over the pacific and by what means.

If I'd have to guess, our intelligence watched them blow it up and launch it and then followed along.

Possibly. Nobody posting here knows much if anything other than the track it took. Letting it travel was the only way to gain the Most useful info for the next Cold War episode.
