According to the local radio guys, the big game Friday will be played after school. They quoted that recent drive by shootings between the 18-20 year old former students at both schools has led to this decision. Obviously, the local police know more about this than I do...but, it is sad how fast our country has fallen. I haven't heard of anything like this in my 30 plus years around h.s. football.

My understanding is this is all about retaliation for a young man being shot and killed a few weeks back in the Amhurst Community. Just saw where a player off last years team was shot Sunday Night while sitting in his car. However he is suppose to be OK. I'm hearing this is all about money and clientele. Not gang related. How can we stop this madness?

What's happening in the community has nothing to do with Albemarle Football program. Big games like this draws in big crowds and unwelcome'd individuals. If people have never lived in an environment like we're dealing with, it's hard to get on here and explain why these people make the choices that they do. Glorification on t.v. is a drop of rain in the ocean on why they make these choices.

But @Dogs9 you are correct, it does start at home, but you can't shelter a child forever. Until these young men get it in thick skulls and use what good upbringing they do have, this will continue to happen across the country. And that goes on all four sides of the fence.

Between police visibility and metal detectors, it seems to me that they "CAN" control the situation and this event could be held as scheduled. I understand the need to be cautious and to take a threat seriously... I say call in the SBI if these bad acts are so threatening. It is domestic terror at a local level. Park a few rear ends in the county jail until things cool off. I hope nothing else happens.

I was at an event in Gastonia a few years ago and gun shots rang out. People went crazy and started running over People. It's not fun when something like that happens.

I understand the safety factor for the thugs, fans, players, and law enforcement but I think changing this will only make them more brazen. You are changing your life to accomodate their bad intentions. It is one thing to lock your doors or be safe when you go somewhere but when high school football on a Friday night is on the chopping block then you are truly messing with the fabric of a community. Not sure that is the correct move.

Guess they figure law enforcement can keep a better eye on things in the daylight. However I do agree with btango in that we are giving in to the bad guys. With all the shootings in America today guess we can't be to careful. But it's so sad when a family is afraid to go to a hs football game because of fear for their lives. Pains me to say it but I'm afraid it's the world we live in. We just somehow have to take back our lives from the bad guys.

The way most of the law enforcement officers look in this county it won't matter what time of the day a crime is committed. The guilty party won't be caught unless it takes place in the parking lot of a Krispy Kreme donut shop.:);):p:D Just kidding.
