Word on the usm campus is that just prior to his arrest, Alford was trying to backtrack and accept the kluckers offer. That is probably out the window now though. That would have been a hell of a haul if he had been able to pull it off. Sign a pro baseball contract, sign with the eagles for the few dollars they gave him, and then go back and get paid by the bears. And if they could have found a way to swing it, they probably would have, crazy momma be damned.

Yea my Eagle bro-in-law said the same thing to me yesterday. Said that's the only good that came from his arrest...he likely won't be a Bear now.

This is where I admire the rebels. They will go and get the talent, like Coach O did with Snead. Alford would be a good pickup for anyone and would be worth the trouble just to be given a chance. That's what the have nots have to do, along with JUCOs and Hargrave.

I missed the story on the crazy momma. Please do tell

Went on the field after an umpire after calling her baby out on strikes while in high school and may have been arrested but not sure. This year got in a fight in the stands with a usm fan that was talking bad about her baby. Was arrested.

Alford is awful. He's never going to be a college QB. He can't pass at all. Doensn't have a position on a football field. Let them waste a scholly.

I don't really care if we get him or not, but he would step into the shoes....

of Mackey, jack of all trades running, throwing the half back pass, slot receiver etc. Mackey had a little fight trouble too. Question is whether we could afford a scholly on him now that Slive has handcuffed the SEC w/ his dumbass 25 rule (maybe he sits out a year and counts next December though).

17 it this is why I really believe we have no chance. There is no logic that suggest why some of these guys go to Ole Miss. Yet year after year it happens. I can't figure out how the deck is so stacked against us when it comes to talent in the state of Mississippi. And yes I know there are a lot of head scratchers such as Pegues that went our way but, why do athletes with every inkling of lean toward us just up and decide to go to UM? 17 it I guess I need to buy more bricks. I guess it's the anti karma for talent we got to the basketball program with nothing to show.

He can walk on if he wants. We have two 4-star QB's committed, Brunetti is back, and The Conerly Trophy winner is a sophomore.

So is the Heisman. Schools still recognize the winners and acknowledge their accomplishments. My point is, he doesn't have a spot at QB. He can't throw it 10 yards in a spiral. He can walk on and learn how to back pedal. Or go to USA, I don't care.

I feel the same way. No real logic at all. I mean, I can understand why some 2nd rate athletes would want to go there to play SEC ball, but I don't understand why any highly rated, specifically black, players would go there. All about who pays the most I suppose. I know we play the game and all, but I went to high school with one person who's in their 'network'.

well, honestly i wasn't hating on ole miss, i thought it should have gone to moncrief, then banks, then even russell before wallace.

many teams could use an athlete like alford on their team though, including ole miss. he's not a walk-on type.

I wasn't implying you were. I also believed Moncrief probably deserved it more. But as has been pointed out, Moncrief probably wouldn't have had the year he did without Wallace.

I have no idea how many scholarships we have to offer, I don't get into recruiting until February, and more to the point, July. If we have room, and he isn't going to piss and moan about not playing QB, and can keep his psycho mother in check, I say give him one. I wish he could play baseball, but he can't.

It's probably a moot point, though after this week.

I doubt Mississippi would have taken him even before his arrest unless he wanted to walk on. He is a wasted scholarship and as a transfer you'd have to waste 1 more year.
