I would like to suggest that we have a very informal meet and greet at 3:00 on Saturday.

I'm suggesting 3:00, but would like suggestions for any other time. I figure that the first game should be wrapped up by then, and our friends that came just to the 3a game will want to get on the road as quickly as possible. And I think anyone coming to just the second game should be there by then?

As far as exactly where, I need some help. Certainly inside the stadium. And near some easily found landmark that may not be excessively crowded. And, it needs to be somewhere that Mike Salem can get to in his motorized chair with no problems.

This will be nothing formal. No rules, no obligations, no nothing. Just a chance to shake hands with old friends, and a chance to make new ones. Ok, there is one rule..., it's ok to forget somebody's name, or even to not recognize someone you have only met once or twice. Just come by and say hi, that's all. We have been doing this when we could over the last couple of years, and some tremendous friendships have developed. So just plan to swing by, say hi, and be on your way.

By the way, let me mention this. Mike is in his motorized chair. Many, if not most people find it awkward to greet or to talk with someone with a disability. Mike has MS. That's all there is to it. He ain't contagious. He is not self conscious. And there isn't a damn thing wrong with his brain, (except this Salem fan thing, but we are working on that.) His wit is second to none. I say all of this because he and his chair is the landmark we will all be looking for. He is hard to miss in his shiny red chair.

So, you W&M alumni suggest an appropriate place to meet. And if you think 3:00 is not the best time, please tell us.

Actually 64 from Richmond to Williamsburg is usually ok except during the Summer and Friday evenings. Beyond Williamsburg it is a mess!! But if coming west of Richmond use the 295 bypass and not 64 straight thru Richmond. The ferry is nice but very slow to load/ unload and cross the James River. The secret way is old 60 from Richmond, most is 4 lanes and generally deserted. Working in Richmond for 15 years I took this route everytime 64 had a problem.

I was 1-1 Lafayette, but just like your Rams the Hokies never quit. I was hoping you would come to the game. I had a nice time talking football with you on Saturday and would have really enjoyed spending the whole day yacking it up.

Hopefully in the future we can meet again. With the freezing temps on Saturday and my wife not wanting another late dinner, I probably will not be at the finals. I don't know if we will be good enough to meet Dinwiddie next year but maybe down the road. Enjoyed our talk and meeting the coaches father -real nice guy! Like the cannon but I'll take the girl on horse back here to Williamsburg for our games.

When I go to North Anna or Innsbrook, I take RT. 10 to 295 and avoid I-64 at ALL costs! Living in Isle of Wight makes that easier to do as well.

But you are correct, once get past the Williamsburg exits on I-64 East, ALL bets are off, especially with the widening project being worked right now. RT. 60 is like a ghost town, the forgotten road. I'll travel 60 before 64 in the summer every time I find myself up that way.

I'm coming down from Maryland. Will there be any issues on 64?

The area from 495/95 interchange down to Fredericksburg might be real crowded and heavy traffic even on Saturday- leave early! On 295- then 64 you should be ok if before noon. No special events here besides the football games but two weeks before Christmas the outlets and stores do attract a huge crowd. If you hear of any issues on 64 east- there is sign around the 295/64 interchange that tells the miles and minutes down to Newport News area- if these are not equal it indicates a traffic jam/ follow signs to art 60 and take right into Williamsburg.

Hey brother. I'll be going to Norfolk on Saturday for the VCU/ODU basketball game. Any advice on routes I should take and time frame to avoid some of the traffic? It will be much appreciated!

On 64 in Newport News is an electronic sign that has the miles and time to both tunnels, the 64 and 664 tunnel- watch for it, it will let you know if the 64 tunnel is backed up. The 64 tunnel back up can be very bad but it is the more direct route. The 664 tunnel whose exit from 64 is just a few miles before the 64 tunnel is almost always ok but the longer route to Norfolk. Use your Gps if you go this way, all highways but can be confusing. Go as early as possible as traffic really builds into the early afternoon. Good luck- put up with this mess for 15 years with Dept ABC. I am so happy I retired this year!

Congrats on your retirement and thank you much for the insight! Last time I went to VA Beach it took me an hour and a half to get from Fort Monroe to Tidewater Dr in Norfolk. Anything helps lol!

In the absence of a better idea, I suggest that we gather for a few minutes on the home side, at the 50, on the concourse behind the lower seating section. At 3:00 pm. Mike and his hot rod chair are about as good of a landmark as we can ask for, so just look for him and walk on over.

And of course, bring your family over with you to meet us. Let them put a face to the crazy guys you are always telling them about.

Who plans to be there?

Myself for sure
Bleeding Navy
Mike Salem
First Down, (my crazy brother in law.)

I'll be there at 3 for sure. I'm hoping to also make it for most of the first game as well.

I definitely won't be there, but I hope to meet all of you at some point. When I get older and am able to drive I'm sure I will meet you guys over the years. My parents don't really want to drive me anywhere but when I'm older I'm I'll sure to go to some big games around the state. I've always wanted to go to Salem Stadium and Dinwiddie.:D

You should have said something earlier in the week. We could have set you up with a ride somehow. Maybe we could have converted you and you would bleed navy. Lol. Hang in there you are a special kid.
