I don’t understand the bad will toward NJ.Com or the SL. Their mission is to report what is happening. I think many don’t want to accept things when they don’t go well. They cover real things. They are not cheerleaders for RU. If you listen to the podcasts with the SL writers who cover RU sports, they are positive and want RU to have success in the B1G. They are.certainly not anti RU.
You are one of the more grounded and reasonable posters on this board. I agree the role of the NJ newspapers and media sites that host the NJ newspapers is to not be cheerleaders for RU.
Two questions for you. Did you find the headline that is the topic of this thread even just a little bit over the top and slanted to paint Rutgers in a bad light? I found the framing to be odd when PJ worked at Rutgers almost 15 years ago and he has been a head coach for many years.
Second question is do you notice the other major NJ news outlet, Gannett, which includes app.com, mycentraljersey.com and North Jersey.com rarely runs such stories or headlines? There are two non sports reporters at Gannett who write a series of articles on spending on RU athetics, but they at least attempt to make their stories fact-based and not bombastic.
The only writer I find worthwhile reading from NJ.com is Todderick Hunt. He is a good writer and reports the facts in an neutral tone and sprinkles in interesting tidbits. The other beat writer I like is at Gannett NJ, Chris Iseman. Good writer, fact based stories and no drama. Steve Politi, on the other hand is a major drama queen style of writer, who often goes for the negative slant.
