My favorites (native Mississippian and still visit N. O. as often as possible) - "peacemaker" poboy at Acme, grilled oysters at Drago's, and Willie Mae's Fried Chicken.
When I get off the plane in 'nawlins the first stop is Acme in the airport! Actually, I don't think I have ever had a bad meal in the Big Easy!

I heard good things about Mother's, but I could not stand the line and wait.

The Quarter will likely be more touristy so if you can go for some local eats further away in Uptown and the Garden District- Slim Goodies for breakfast,
Jaques-Imos for Cajun, and Domilise's for Po Boys.

I'll 2nd Cochon's. Also try the Praline Connection on Frenchman. My favorite, though, is Bacchanal on Chartres in Bywater.

Also in Bywater, if you're there on a Sunday afternoon, is a chef who cooks tacos and burritos behind his house. It's the best thing I've eaten in New Orleans. It's on Rampart Street (I believe it's between Piety and Desire). There is an alley in the middle of the block on the north side of the street, and there should be people sitting around eating tacos.

The line is always long and you can get equally delicious seafood at multiple other joints in the area, for less $. Try Felix's Seafood across the street from ACME. Hardly ever a wait and damn good seafood for a decent price. I like to stop in there, while Im spending the day in The Quarter and scoop up some oysters. Bourbon House has decent seafood as well. I just don't see the thrill with ACME besides the name. Unless you've never been and want to say you've been, you can save a lot of time going to one of the other seafood places right in the same area, plus it'll leave more time for the "Huge *** Beers".

Nicer place to eat, that is very good is GW Fins. Broussard's also.

Mothers is a decent po-boy, but if you want outstanding I'd go to one of the following:<div>
</div><div>Parkway - Shrimp or Roast Beef are stellar, and I really like the hot sausage.</div><div>Sammy's - The "Ray Ray" is a thing to behold. Fried Chicken, ham, and swiss. Won best po-boy at Po-boy Fest. Also, the roast beef here is out of this world and has won at Po-boy Fest.</div><div>Crabby Jack's - Fried Green Tomato and shrimp remoulade po-boy or the Duck po-boy.</div><div>
</div><div>

The oysters are well worth the trip and we usually just sit at the bar and eat a few plates of oysters.

Coop's Place on Decatur(already mentioned) and Pascal's Manale on Napeleon are can't miss. For the love of God, please stop with the Acme ****. And has everyone forgotten Galatoire's on Bourbon(not that you'd ever get in).
