This is exactly why I'm still in the decision process. There is a lot to consider no matter how careful and cautious you think you are having a deadly weapon in a family home can be more dangerous than it is helpful in some scenarios. Right now we have security cameras and a quality security system and live in a nice part of Lexington. The wife and I do enjoy shooting guns at ranges, we just haven't felt the need to rush into this just yet.
I'm not going to air all the reasons we are still deciding, some of those are personal, suffice it to say though, in many scenarios in life things are not so cut and dry. This is what I made my decisions on when it comes to firearms. And I repeat this because gun control dips are so full of misinformation.
CDC - up to 3 million lives saved from violent crime by civilian with a weapon.
It’s a way bigger issue than most realize, and gun accidents aren’t a drop in the bucket compared.
Hope it helps with your decision. Guns aren’t scary, people just make’m scary.

Accidents happen, but my children will not go near a gun if I’m not present.
And that’s why I say, gun safety is the first step with children.
Sad story about the gun shop owner but that’s the vast minority when it comes to self protection. And you should know that being a retired state police.
Actually, I like your thinking. I am not against people having guns. But, to say that a 5 year old is trained and able to make good decisions is unbelievably stupid, to be honest.

Ah the good ole don't-post-your-vacation-plans-on-facebook-lest-ye-be-burgled method. Good thinking Glenn, I hope your bloodlust is thoroughly quenched.Glennwas trying to figure out some new targets. Determining who is armed and who isn't. He will avoid the armed posters.
Hard to win a gun fight without a gun. Home intruders could care less.I got 2 guns that God gave me and I'll use them if need be.
Blowing people away is not the answer bru.

Do you know how many times I have heard it said, "I can't believe my child did that? He knew better!" Children and adults made bad decisions every day and when they did, I saw the results.
Someone once asked me if I ever doubted the existence of God, I replied, "Yes, every time I picked up a dead child." That is something I will never miss and don't watch the news because I don't want to see it again.

I love you guys though. Keeping it fun.
Any gun owners thinking about buying another one? :raised_hands:
I have bear spray.
He sounds reasonable to me . I have two guns. If I didn't I wouldn't feel girly or less of a man.Hard to believe I'm on a forum with dudes like this. The girly nature of men now days astounds me.
The CDC estimates 500K-3 million lives are saved from violent crime by gun. Without suicides, barely 10K are taken and it’s mainly by illegal weapon.
You should arm yourself with whatever weapon makes you feel comfortable. Regardless of what gun control morons being the governments jockey say.
Not arguing. I have guns. But the CDC published an article by Gary Kleck, that gave the information you cited. After further study Kleck had to withdraw his study because of inaccuracies. Not saying that guns have not been used to defend, just that there is no evidence of the high numbers that he used. You posted his original, inaccurate, numbers.
Fitch, I have a 5 year old that already knows how to take down an AR-15, clean it, put it together. He understands what a gun can do.
And he will be the last child you’ll see have an accident of self fire.
Kids aren’t stupid. What most parents fail to do is TEACH their child about weapons. They simply don’t know the dangers.
Guns are great, fun, and American. AR-15’s are an excellent self defense platform as well. It’s not a military gun, it has low recoil, and you can control your ammunition better than a shotgun.
Shotguns are great for home defense as well.
Always carry clocks if you can. Factory big stick 33 round magazines are super handy.
But teach your child what a gun is, and what they do. You’ll be fine if you do that.
Key word. Proper training and safety. We had training in public schools on how to handle a rifle. My grandfather gave me a .22 bolt action rifle when I was 8 years old and I was taught safety first. (I still have it and it is my most prized weapon) He taught me how to shoot it and shoot it safely. I took it to school for show and tell. We passed it around the class room. Nobody thought a thing about it. This is not a picture of me or my classmates but it is exactly how it was in our schools. In the 50'sI own 26 guns and enjoy hunting and shooting sports of all kinds. Born in 52 and owned my first shotgun at age 7. Times were different then. We didn't have to lock our windows and doors out of fear. Wild game was and is my favorite meat to put on my table.
Having said that, folks need to let your conscience be your guide about gun ownership. You can be safe with guns with the proper training.
Morg seems to have a pal as an admin. My post saying “billy bad ***” was deleted for “name callling”. Yet his calling people idiots still exists.
Must be one of his gun target practice buddies.
Suggest that you don’t try walking around Winchester Road area in Lexington at night. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:I'm 35 and never been in a situation where I felt unsafe because I didn't have a gun on me.
Why? So you can get the data to help reflect the way you want to feel about it? Nevermind. That's definitely it.I think Morgousky's larger point that defensive gun use has been one that has lacked attention has some merit, but I've looked into the CDC study and likewise found that the survey methods were not accurate. It's a topic that probably could use more research and accurate data.
So . . . you would opt out of such a world? If so how? Oh please, do tell. So enlightening, all of your wisdom is . . always. Obviously you describe doing nothing about such an awful condition.I'm not a big "gun guy" but I have always owned a 38 that I keep loaded and readily available in case of intruders and a 22 rifle to shoot varmints with. When children come to the house I make sure they are secure an inaccessible. Beyond that I'm not doing anything else do to the coronoavirus. If it comes to the point were we have widespread roving bands of thugs breaking into homes at gunpoint, I'm not sure that's a world I want to live in anyway.

That’s why the report was wide in scope. 500K - 3 million is an estimate because it’s hard to gauge. We know for a fact that guns save far more lives than they take. Period. But the media will not touch it. Wonder why.
