Hows the news media treating you today?

I have a friend that's in London that e-mailed me an article about the whole deal in the London paper.

my gosh, she's been open about her sexuality, they all know it; there will be druggies, interracial couples, gay girls and guys (closeted), perverts, and regular kids there. Just like at school every day.

thinks she is a lesbian.

She decides that she wants to bring her girlfriend to senior prom. The school says "dates must be of the opposite sex." Single mom and single grandma tell chick to "stand up for yourself" and contact the ACLU.

ACLU tells school that they can't discriminate. School tells ACLU to go 17 themselves, they don't have to have a prom and cancels the whole thing under the pretense that some parents will put the prom on for the kids.

School - doesn't have to manage a prom
Kids - get to go to a prom not managed by the school
Chick - completely outcasted
ACLU - no grounds to sue

Enter news media -

Reporter: "Here in Mississippi, where we were surprised that they had schools, homophobia has set in. This beautiful young lady (shows picture of fat chick) simply wanted to share her special prom night with her girlfriend, but the Mississippi school had other plans and canceled the prom. This comes from a state that is just now warming up to the idea of non-segregated proms (shows clip from Morgan Freeman's PR stunt in Charleston). "
Anchor: "Are you sure you are in Mississippi? It looks like there are kids going to school with books, and is that running water?"
Reporter: "Yes, I was surprised as well. It seems like here in Mississippi they are at least trying to keep up with the rest of the country. I even ran into an adult that could seemingly read and write."
Anchor: "Fascinating stuff from Mississippi."

Now I know that you're supposed to go to prom and all that but I'm not
shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important,
I honestly do but we're talking about high school. We're talking about high school, man. We're talking about high school. We're not talking about college. We're not talking about the real world. We're talking about high school.

...how would it have affected the other kids?

Is being homo contagious?

let the chick go, and nothing happens. Hell, 10% of the people there are gay, just in the closet. And she's not terrible looking, so you may get to see two chicks make out. Win/win

Let the chick come to the prom. If its really that bad, the other kids will make her feel bad enough to leave and that's that.

Hell, we had a guy at our prom spill punch on his pants and we made fun of him (IT LOOKED LIKE HE PISSED HIS PANTS). He left. We also made fun of this girl for wearing what was one piece of lace away from being a wedding dress. I'm sure the kids at IAHS would have taken care of it if it needed to be taken care of.

Now we have to endure news reports similar to the one that I portrayed.

is somehow less "hey, look at what these hillbillies are doing now" news-worthy than what's currently happening?

She would have gone home and cried, momma would have called the principal. principal would have apologized and a couple kids would have gotten in-school suspension.

Because the school made an "official decision," it is a much bigger deal. Probably based on the local Southern Baptist church saying something.

Who knows, there is a possibility that the kids would have been cool with it and nothing would have happened. I wouldn't have said anything, unless she looked like she pissed her pants.

I guess the old guard hasn't died off yet there like in Starkville and Tupelo.

My guess is they are doing everything they can to keep the elders alive. No beer sales, no homos, etc. Just imagine if they died....

gang rapes on Sunday
rampant drug use
gay orgies
rioting in the streets

They're afraid it will spread to Fulton from Tupelo.

"This story just made Fox News website and Yahoo news feed. The school board really dropped the ball on this one. This will turn into a national circus with people coming from all over to protest. It would have been better if they would have cut a deal and let the girl bring her date, both in dresses. Now when the protesters show up, the streets of Fulton will look like bourbon st. during Mardi Gras."

"What I do believe is that the ITAWAMBA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD as opened this girl up to an open door for someone to harm her. If something happens to this girl because of the fact that someone kid will not get to have a senior prom this year, THE BLOOD WILL BE ON THE BOARDS HANDS."

<div class="pad">"That's great that it made Fox News. Maybe all those liberals in Washington will see that honest God fearing Americans still exist. We live in the "Bible Belt." If you don't like it just move to California where most are ****!! My anti-homosexual stance has nothing to do with my religious views. It's just nasty!! I was at the gas station the other day in Verona and saw two men holding hands. How is that right????? How can a man not be attracted to the beauty of a women's body?? "

"Why do these homosexuals choose to live a different lifestyle and then get their panties in a wad when the general public treats them as being different? Excellent decision by the school system. I bet the kids in her school will have nothing to do with her now. They want to be weird but excepted. NO where does the law say that I have to except these nasty human beings. It is not a natural thing for someone to be sexually attracted to the same gender!!! Hi, my name is dirty harry and I'm a homophobic!!! Good Day!! "

<div class="pad">"High school proms will be a thing of the past soon enough.
As for me I get tired of being told I have to accept everyone no matter how weird they are. Let the homosexual girls come to the prom. Next year we will have to accept the child molesters. Year after that the terrorist will be allowed to join in the festivities.
So let the girls come, if there is a God he will deal with them in the afterlife and I am sure they will be roasting. "</div></div>

Let her come to the prom with her date and the other kids just leave her the 17 alone. Really, why should anyone give a **** if two girls go to the prom together.

Gotta love all the homophobes.

What kills me with the homophobe Christians is that they really genuinely believe that people are gay by choice. It's almost as if they abandon all reason and logic.

who are sick of the ACLU putting their nose in everybody's business and forcing **** on people like how they forced prayer out of school etc., and they just said we'll cancel it all together so this doesn't become a big lawsuit that the ACLU makes a shitload of money off of and makes precedent in court. Do I care what the young muff muncher does? No, but when she got the ACLU involved, this was the best move for the school.

reasonable alternatives. The science backs you up. It's not a choice. I really, really think most Christians recognize that.
Here is the dilemma. If you accept that it is NOT a choice AND if you accept that homosexuality is wrong AND if you believe that people who live in a state of sin with no knowledge or desire to change are going to hell, it's a sad world for the Christian. Their homosexual friends are doomed to hell by no action of their own. They were born that way. So to avoid that dilemma, most Christians say it is a choice.

If they'd just done the right thing to start with, she would have had no reason to get the ACLU involved.

The school board thought it would be best to "wash their hands" of the situation by calling off the prom altogether. That way, they don't have pissed off parents because of the lesbians at the prom and they don't have the bigger problem that would've ensued had they carried out the plan to ban the two from the prom.

The problem is that they let the issue go too far by telling the girl she couldn't bring her date to the prom. Thus, she called the ACLU and the media attention ensued. I think they are going to avoid legal liability in the situation, though, which was their best move at that point (assuming they do not want to piss off the apparently influential group of parents who are opposed to the lesbians at the prom).

they also defend the terrorists at Gitmo that they should be provided the koran yet would fight and sue anyone that asked the state to providesomeone with a Bible due to "separation of church and state". Ummmm, the military IS THE STATE.

They are what is wrong with this country...they are **** stirrers and fight for rights such as the "man boy love association". Sick f*****s just like all you progressives out there.

That said, the muncher should have been allowed to go. Should have never been an issue, but I dont know the entire story either leading to this point.

just immoral and unnatural. Unfortunately, it is promoted these days in America as a perfectly normal lifestyle choice. Teenagers can be awkward and easily confused. The promotion of homos in the media may be partially responsible for the epidemic of ****** at high school campuses all over the country. I think true homosexuals are born that way. I had at least one, maybe two homos in my class. They stayed in the closet though. Maybe that was for the best. Just cause you are fat, ugly, and your mother dresses you funny doesn't mean you should swap spit with a member of the same sex when no one from the opposite sex will date you. I guess what I mean is that a lot of these so called openly homosexuals roaming the halls of high schools today probably aren't really homos, just lonely outcasts. Should the school have cancelled the prom? Seems a bit on the extreme side to me, but the decision was the school boards' decision to make, not mine. If the majority of the board and the majority of the parents in that community were behind this decision, then rule 17 the ACLU.

For everyone that thinks they should let her come to the prom, let me ask you this?

Would they let awhite malego to the prom wearing a Klan outfit? Would the nationalnews media defend said white male in the Klan robe? He isn't hurting anyone. It is his right to wear what he wants, but people would say that blacks would be offended (and they probably would be offended). Well, lesbians or gays holding hands and kissing offends lots of people. That is a fact. She CHOSE to be gay, so let her live with the consequences. It is wrong and immoral. Period.

It's a 9 hole course with two sets of tee boxes. My work holds a fundraiser there every year. Two years ago I was playing and drove into the 2 groups ahead of us twice, once hitting a guy in the arm. I just hate slow play.. The members have their own carts, some with radios blaring country music and one painted like Dale Jr's old race-car. They take forever on the greens, and when someone rolled in a 20 footer for par you could hear screams for the other side of the course. Itawamba is a dry county, but everyone there has a cooler full of beer. It took almost 7 hours to play 18 holes...

The rumor is that a private prom is to be held at the Fulton Country Club..No lesbians allowed...
