at UNC. Was named head coach after Brown left and got fired about 4 or 5 years later. Joined Franchione's staff at Bama - had the #1 D in the nation in 2001. Went to A&M with Fran and sucked. Now is Asst Head Coach at his alma mater - Carson Newman(sp?).

I am indifferent because you can spin it to be good (very good D's at UNC and Bama) and to be bad (Horrible D at A&M).

He seems to have done well as DC everywhere he's been except for aTm. aTm has become a pretty ****** football program since Slocum left town (where they were consistently slightly above average).

Long known for his accomplishments in coaching powerful defenses, Torbush just completed his third season as the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. In 1996 he was named the National Defensive Coordinator of the Year by American Football Quarterly. Torbush also lead the Ole Miss, North Carolina and Alabama defenses to the top of their conferences in overall defensive numbers.

During his time at A&M however, the once heralded Aggie "Wrecking Crew" defense struggled, producing numbers that steadily declined. Heading into last week's game against arch-rival Texas, A&M's defense was ranked 109th in the country, allowing a national worst 319 passing yards per game.

I think we need to get the Ninja to focus on making Starksville a more livable place for Ellis Johnson and that ***** wife of his.

joined the staff. He may be the LB's coach. I don't know, but I don't think he's been titles yet. Torbush, at one time was the DC at OM and they were pretty damn good. He reminds me a lot like Bill Clay and they seem to have simular coaching philosophy's.

Personally, I think this would be a pretty good choice.

I think his style would be similar to what we are used to, and I like the fact that he has experience.

They had some good defenses those years. He's a good coach, and I'd be glad to have him on our staff.

Could it be that Torbush's philosophy was better fit toward defending I-formation ball? It looks as if he may have not found a scheme to defend the spread. I don't really know jack *%$%&. Just hoping that some of you more knowledgeable types could back me up, or set me right.

wanting Harbison back, especially on Sheep Central. Do they just think it's cool to have a guy named Cheese on staff? I mean, exactly what did he show last year that looked like something we should retain?

Because most MSU fans can't think outside the MSU box. How many times have we heard Ellis Johnson for HC or DC, Joe Lee Dunn for DC? Hell, I bet several in our fan base would have been happy if Rockey was given the HC job again.

Torbush appears to have a track record suggesting that, IF HE HAS TALENTED PLAYERS, he can produce consistently good results. How about that? The principle is universal it appears. Talent overcomes a multitude of coaching dumbassedry. Poor talent makes even the most capable coach look completely incompetent. Amazing!

When Byrne announced on the first day of his search that one of the overriding characteristics he wanted in a coach was an aggressive, energetic, tireless recruiter, it should have been readily apparent that Byrne understands how it works.

I think Torbush would be a decent hire, IF MULLEN & CO PUT TALENTED ASSES ON THE FIELD FOR HIM.

I think we can do better than Torbush as DC too. Although he has been successful a lot of places, and I think getting him as a position coach would be a coup, seeing all the major programs he's been DC at.
If you were referring to Johnson, if he's not the best DC out there then he's dang close.

But many of us realize that isn't likely to happen. Why would he leave a good job at home to go back to a place he tried to leave every year he was here?

But until we hire a DC I'm going to hope.
I have a good idea why: $500,000/yr. And I now wonder how much of him wanting to leave was due to Croom.
