Anyone hearing Carl Torbush as DC?...

at UNC. Was named head coach after Brown left and got fired about 4 or 5 years later. Joined Franchione's staff at Bama - had the #1 D in the nation in 2001. Went to A&M with Fran and sucked. Now is Asst Head Coach at his alma mater - Carson Newman(sp?).
I am indifferent because you can spin it to be good (very good D's at UNC and Bama) and to be bad (Horrible D at A&M).

He seems to have done well as DC everywhere he's been except for aTm. aTm has become a pretty ****** football program since Slocum left town (where they were consistently slightly above average).

Personally, I think this would be a pretty good choice.

Could it be that Torbush's philosophy was better fit toward defending I-formation ball? It looks as if he may have not found a scheme to defend the spread. I don't really know jack *%$%&. Just hoping that some of you more knowledgeable types could back me up, or set me right.

Torbush appears to have a track record suggesting that, IF HE HAS TALENTED PLAYERS, he can produce consistently good results. How about that? The principle is universal it appears. Talent overcomes a multitude of coaching dumbassedry. Poor talent makes even the most capable coach look completely incompetent. Amazing!
When Byrne announced on the first day of his search that one of the overriding characteristics he wanted in a coach was an aggressive, energetic, tireless recruiter, it should have been readily apparent that Byrne understands how it works.
I think Torbush would be a decent hire, IF MULLEN & CO PUT TALENTED ASSES ON THE FIELD FOR HIM.
When Byrne announced on the first day of his search that one of the overriding characteristics he wanted in a coach was an aggressive, energetic, tireless recruiter, it should have been readily apparent that Byrne understands how it works.

I think we can do better than Torbush as DC too. Although he has been successful a lot of places, and I think getting him as a position coach would be a coup, seeing all the major programs he's been DC at.
