He had 8 months to line up a hire that should have been announced Sunday and then comes out with Les Miles as plan A.

I mean WTF.

And to think, Jeff Long is probably on thin ice. That's a pretty good point. How gullible do you have to be to think Miles would come?

I have been wondering about this as well. Seems like they would already have things figured out as far as first, second, and third choice. I understand they cannot get serious about contract negotiations until the season is over, but I am really shocked that we have not heard any strong rumors about who they have contacted. Then they feel the need to check with Miles just to make sure he isn't interested?

he got strung along by Miles' agent.

reports are out that Charlie Strong has talked to AU and Strong is denying but i bet his agent talked to AU. Don't forget, their search when they ended up w/ Petrino started off very badly too.

It's not that easy. You can't really talk to the candidates until the season is over. About all you can do is find out from their agent if they might be interested then wait till you can talk to them. But yeah, you just don't offer that job to Les Miles unless you know he's going to accept it. That is a huge WTF.

He's doing what he's been told to do. Too many chiefs in the UPig Tribe

Louisville was late to the party hating Auburn..

...but I bet they've made huge strides in the last 5-6 years.

Miles and his agent knew what they were doing. Stringing along Arkansas just long enough for them to make an offer. You see what "Hat" got out of it don't you? Even if Arkansas fell for this plot and thought Miles was their first choice all along, they should have had a second, third, and fourth option in case it turned out bad. Which it did. I'm just as shocked as all of you.

A big WTF moment....

it was a debacle last time too

Muschamp was was about to be named head coach at Arkansas last time and Petrino stepped in and took the job at the 11th hour after the Falcons disaster.

He is under severe pressure to make a good hire with perhaps his job on the line as well. With Auburn and TN open right now I see Arky as the 3rd best SEC job available. They think they are a top destination though. With the rise of A&M and Bama/LSU already dominant, the SEC west look like a minefield with all the national jobs open in addition to the SEC jobs

I honestly believe it was a last ditch effort to get a big known name. The rumors have been insane here and I think they keep getting rejected. First it was Gruden, then Gary Patterson, Chris Peterson... Les Miles was the longshot.

Approximately

as gullible as you need to be to think hiring John L Smith on an interim basis is a good idea.

Yep, the Tyson Chicken people and Walton's say what goes there. I am surprised Long wasn't fired with JohnL.Smith. He must really have the right things to say to the Tysons/Waltons.

* But be patient guys, Gruden will be a Razorback. *

Arky> TN

1) TN plays FL, UGA, USC, and BAMA every year ...that is 4 losses
2) you recruit atlanta? ...yah so does mark richt, you know the guy playing in his 2nd SEC CG
3) your fanbases thinks winning 10 games is not enough
4) Franklin is still at Vandy

Arky has to be the best SEC job out there

How did UK hire before Ark, TN, and Auburn?

I think the upside to Tenn is much higher than Arky in the long run. And Arkansas gets its top talent picked through by Texas, A&M (and more so probably now in the SEC), LSU, Tenn and even Mizzou. Kent State's QB is from AR if I remember correctly, Kiehl Frazier, etc.

Yep. My co workers dad is a physician who is on the Hog Foundation...

he is heavily involved up there. As of yesterday when I spoke to him, he said they are still holding out hopes for Mike Gundy. Doesn't look good. He said they never had chance, nor did anyone up there want Les Miles. That was all a marketing ploy from Miles agent, or Jerry Jones. Sounds like Nutts agent if you ask me.

He said there is a strong push from the Foundation guys up there to get Charlie Strong. He also told me that initially the foundation guys not named Walton or Jones were an event split on trying to go after Gundy or Strong. It appears Gundy is out of the picture, unless they come back at him.

He told me know one knows now, but look for them to go hard after CS.

again this is coming from a physician on the hog foundation who is heavily involved.

It sounds to me they are in just about a cluster 17 now as they were when Petrino fell off his motorcycle.

Gotta disagree here. Tennessee is more of a national brand. The home of Peyton Manning, Rocky Top and now Arian Foster is more recognizable in the homes throughout the US. It's easier to recruit nationally to Tennessee. They are Alabama pre-Saban. A sleeping giant that is one great coach away from playing for SEC championships and NC every season. Just look at their history. Only recently have they fallen from the top. They will be back. Oh and Vandy will soon be losing to UT again, it's just how the CF world works.
