Thanks for posting this pollo. This has been an issue for far too long. NCHSAA apparently just doesn't get it, or more likely, chooses not to,
Here is another article addressing the same problem ... it is lengthy, but very thorough.

Problem number one the legislature is crazy about magnet and charters along with giving out vouchers to private schools.

In my opinion, private schools and charters should never get vouchers from the state. They are private, their funding should come from elsewhere. Put that voucher money into our public schools, a lot of them could use it.

He's wrong about the split classifications in football. That was coach driven after the 1A's got it, the rest wanted it to.

Charters ARE public schools, Coogs.

Are they? I'm not sure because they have a lottery system for admission thought that separated them from public schools. Not sure if that's how magnets work also.

The lottery is only if the school is full, from my understanding. Otherwise they're essentially open-enrollment public schools.

Lottery gives student a number. Once the maximum enrollment is met the remaining numbers are on a waiting list with lowest number getting first opening and down the list.

Charters and magnets are public. No tuition, no vouchers needed.

If they are giving vouchers give me one fur but having a kid.

He has several items that are a bit questionable but after seeing the statement about the football playoffs I realize that he is not very knowledgable. His mistakes hurt a good argument.

Sadly, many will take it as truth, which doesn't help the cause when it is borne out.

I'm not against something being done. The multiplier seems to be the quickest fix.

Yes, they should X2! Can always improve on it later.
This will put some in 2A and some on 1AA and some 1A. This would need to be changed in the near future. Three yrs maybe.

If you X4 it would be better. Just saying.

The dividing point is not public or private but "boundaries" and "non-boundaries".
When a large school system has open enrollment then they are "non-boundary" schools.
All charters and magnets are "non-boundary" schools. All privates are "non-boundary" schools. If Winston Salem Prep has 250 students they qualify as small 1-A. But they can draw from all of Forsyth County plus some. So the "boundary" schools of the Northwest 1-A Conference are restricted to just those students living in their district or boundaries.
All "boundary" schools should have their own state playoffs separate from the NCHSAA.
Also check which private schools are benefiting from the "scholarships" which the General Assembly implemented for the poor to attend the privates on your tax money.

The multiplying WS Preps numbers by 1.5 or 2 wont work with WS Prep because their ADM this past football season was 257 and that by 2x257= 514 ... Mount Airy's was 540 1AA East Surry was 629 1AA so that still puts them in 1AA ... Now Bishop on the other hand ADM 446 and that X 1.5 is 669 and X 2=892 . These changes may have to be on a school by school bases. Also each conference probably needs to be each conference handle differently especially 1A becaues of the huge advantage WS Prep & Bishop has in the NW1A.
