I still have a couple of seat cushions with the NJ Rutgers helmet logo on them. I don't remember who the sponsor was.
As do I. My Dad got them for me after a Giant game. Ladies in front of him were so drunk they forgot those and some other stuff they brought. LOL

Along with the previously mentioned STS ones.

I’m very vintage.😎

They found a very good home.

Fraternity tailgates involved rented box trucks, large tents and kegs. Students were allowed to park in the tailgate lots for free.
Then came Feb, 1988 and the death of freshman James Callahan at a frat party from alcohol poisoning.

Ugh, Lambda Chi - I always remember that time because all of my business with the Greek organizations dried up after that. I don't even know if they did spring formals that year.

Still think Doug would’ve had a longer, more successful tenure here if had a modicum of academic support and he coached within the current bowl system - would’ve gone to three most likely.
The lack of academic support killed Graber's tenure. He must have lost the equivalent of a entire recruiting class to academics in the time he was here.

Wow my memory is starting to fail me. You're right, we used to play 2 or 3 games at Giants Stadium, from 1981 through 1992.

By the way, why isn't your avatar a bottle of Fireball?
Part of the deal in getting Rutgers Stadium re-built was playing games at Giants Stadium for a certain number of years.

We only played 2 more games at Giants Stadium after the stadium was completely redone in 1993: 1 in 1994 and 1 in 1996.

I think the 1994 game was against Penn State. I remember my GF and I were the only RU fans in our section and got(and gave) some very good natured ribbing over the course of the game. As much as I hate Penn State football, most of their fans are good people.

1994 game was at Sandusky. 1995 game was vs. Sandusky in East Rutherford that included the infamous Graber-ThugPa shouting match post-game.

As a Rutgers football fan, you know you're old when.....

1) Were there and remember the alumni team beat the starting team during the spring game in the late shea years.
2) Recall Mad Dog Russo and Mike Francesa were the honorary coaches during the spring game.
3) Were there for the 2004 opener vs Michigan State and witnessed the implosion that happened with New Hampshire right after that.
4) Were there for the turn around of the program in 2005 with what seemed like a storming of the field was a weekly occurrence.
5) Being able to leave at half go back to the parking lot and come back in.
6) The only things in the concession stands were popcorn and hotdogs and couldn't have alcohol in the stadium.
7) To catch the game had tune in the radio to WOR 710 with Bruce Johnson doing the call "left to right on your radio dial" or had to wait for the delayed taping.
8) It was a big game if it was televised live.

However, bowl committees want lots of fans at their Bowl games..
Correct, and one of the biggest reasons why it's 2024 and Rutgers still hasn't played in a major bowl game. The biggest was probably the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl in Orlando and even that's a mid-tier bowl at best.

Eh.

Win or WIN and it would have happened already.

Missed the one in 1995, the Rutgers Results for 1995 show that game being played in Piscataway. But I do remember it at Giants Stadium.

Don't forget the game at Giants Stadium vs Army where Eric LeGrand was injured.
That, unfortunately, occurred October 16, 2010
Rutgers 23 Army 20
East Rutherford, NJ
New Meadowlands Stadium (later aka MetLife Stadium)

Caused by the spread covering TD bomb thrown by degenerate gambler Mike McQuery with 45 seconds left in the game when the outcome was long past being in doubt.

Back in the 50s anyone could walk in and watch the football team practice. My Dad took me to watch practices a fair number of times. I would pick up a football and try kicking it around. There was no fence all around the practice field. Later came the chain link fence and after that the green tarp.
