From an SEC West rival board owner:

I was told by a couple of sources that, despite Antonio Conner [four-star safety from South Panola High School in Batesville, Miss.] naming a top five, the race is clearly finished. Everyone expects Conner to sign with Ole Miss.

yeah, The Ole Miss Rebels are going to sign him

Why do you think calling us that will make Ole Miss fans mad? We wear Ole Miss and Rebels on our helmets and jerseys in all sports. It's not like we're trying to hide it. Do you think you're exposing some secret that no one knows?

He's not doing it to make you mad. He's doing it so that when people discover that:
1) Ole Miss is a term for the Matron of the House by slaves, and
2) Rebels is an obvious reference to the American Civil War, and
3) The song DIXIE is still played on campus ( and is still part of the Ole Miss Rebel fight song), and
4) There are still race riots on campus at Ole Miss,
that will influence the decision of non white young men to want to attend school there.

wow- from your own school website:

a suggestion that reflects those
New South boosters' attempts to mitigate their supplication of the assistance of
the North by hearkening back to a nostalgic, if illusory, "moonlight and magnolia"
time under slavery. During this time period, the university became known as
"Ole Miss," a moniker used by slaves to describe the wife of the plantation owner.

VR has already told you OM isn't trying to hide anything. The fact that that was/is on the OM website just proves his point.

You didn't read his racist article?

The one that called every black football player an "Uncle Tom"?

It's in the locked thread below.

and cowbells were used on potential runaway slaves, therefore they're racist

at least according to your lofty standards.

Except for the fact that cowbells were made to locate cattle. Hence the name COWbells. Oh yeah, and the fact that a quick Google search shows no correlation at all between cowbells and runaway slaves. But go ahead and try to distract attention from the fact that you school is named for and stands for an image of slavery.

Just being as ludicrous as coach is

But they were actually used like that. And please, continue to call us the Ole Miss Rebels. I'm fine with that.

Nice flexing of slavery culture there.

We don't call you Ole Miss Rebels to piss you off. We call you that to differentiate us from you. We are Mississippi's state university. You are old times not forgotten.

Cowbells were used by the underground railroad to warn runaway slaves that Bounty Hunters were coming after them. Cowbells are the sound of freedom.
