Remember Rider last year.....
Go and look how we did when ranked vs ranked opponents under Stans, the record will not be over .500.
Stans is just not a good coach, never has been, never will be. He is a recruiter and that is it.

do programs that consider themselves an upper level program in a BCS conference like our fans do think 2-17 vs the RPI Top 25 the last 5 years is acceptable?

How about being 59-60 vs the RPI Top 150 the last 5 years (and thats not even counting this season)? Is that acceptable?

But now all of the sudden he just became plain awful over the past two years, REALLY? That makes NO SENSE.
You can't argue with these idiots, they just can't admit that Stans never was a good coach.
He got lucky and recruited some good college basketball players over his 13 years at STATE, and next year's freshmen and transfer is his best class to sign yet.
Stans teams have NEVER ran an offense that was woth a damn, never. He recuited playmakers who made him look good, and he thouught the RSS would be that playmaker this year. I used to think that Stans taught defense and rebounding, but now that Kirby is not here, it makes me wonder.

then can't win any games this year. Which makes more sense here? That he was a pretty good coach, but has slowly been losing it before completely losing it this year OR that he somehow had a pretty damn good record for 8 years despite being a terrible coach.

Stans teams have led the SEC in scoring at least once and been in the top 3 many times.

I used to think that Stans taught defense and rebounding, but now that Kirby is not here, it makes me wonder.
Defense and rebounding has gotten progressively worse as Stans's slipped from making the NCAAT every year to making it twice in the past5 years (6 counting this year). Can't blame that on Kirby leaving. Stans clearly changed his philosophy from defense, rebounding, and a strong power post game that he used in the early '00s to "live and die by the 3" in the late '00s.

So using your logic Ron Polk was never a good coach at one timeand neither was Jackie Sherrill. Coaches just burn out and lose "it" sometimes.

I agree that Stansbury was never a good offensive coach. However, much like John Thompson used to be at Georgetown, he made up for it bystressing defense and rebounding. It worked for awhile but the team he has put together now is not interested in doing either and Stansbury does not seem interested in teaching them. He looks completely burned out to me.

Anyone could look at tape from games back in 2002-2006 and see the difference in his coaching from 2007-now. What happened to the great inbounds plays, the half court trap, the intense defense, and crashing the boards on both ends?

I think he has lost touch with today's college basketball player and has thrown his hands up as a result.

like to compare our 2-17 vs the RPI Top 25 to what Kentucky, Tennessee, Vandy, and Florida have done the last 5 years?

You do realize The Recruiter is the only coach in any major conference that has had his job 10+ years and not made a Sweet 16?

He had some good talent, good kids, and he was really into it. He cannot control today's basketball players, and he's burnt out. He wanted to call it quits last year, and that might have been the reason.

But for a while he was real good at recruiting good, solid, character guys who were also strong leaders who would keep the team under control for him. Guys like Zimmerman, Bowers, Roberts, etc. In recent years, his character guys haven't been strong leaders (Varnado, etc.) and the prima donnas are running the team.

Completely agree that we should have never talked him out of quitting last year. When someone wants to quit, it's for a reason.

Rhodes' class was the beginning of the end. Then J-money showed the younger players that there was a different set of rules if you were the star.

Kirby must have been alot of help at maintaining control as well.

What should we expect vs the top 25? We're acting like we won the national championship in football and we went 0-4 vs the top 25. Pretty safe to say we think Mullen is a great coach, a lot on here would say he's a top 15 or 20 coach in all of college football, and he's off to a 1-8 start vs the top 25.

Extrapolate that a couple of years and it might look similar to basketball. Do you think we're going to all of the sudden start having winning records vs the top 25 in football or even close to a .500 record?

different animal, plus the football program is THE revenue producer at every SEC school, maybe not UK. Winning 8+ games/year in the SEC puts you in a much better position as a program compared to winning 20+ games, the West, and not making the tournament. I don't recall anybody outside of Clemson maybe South Carolina showing interest in Stans. Take a look at Frank Beamer's first five years at VA Tech, and look where that program is right now. MSU could be similar to that in the future, but there are a lot of variables to that equation for that to happen, but it is possible.

Stans has had his run of success, now it's time for MSU to take the program in a different direction. RS has plenty of money, and his family can ride off into the sunset and enjoy fishing and watching his boys grow up. It's not a bad thing.

you tried to make it seem like the ACC isn't all that since they only have one ranked team.. so I was just wondering since they're so average, how many of those teams you think we could beat
