I know they play different roles, but has Demary's rise at UCONN pushed Solo somewhat into the background? I think naming him to the second team is real stretch. Wonder if he will return to UCONN? And for all his accomplishments, I don't see Karabin higher than a mid to late second- rounder. Also, nothing other than rookies squad for UCONN's can't-miss Mullins.

Do they have an all-conference freshman team?
They do, unfortunately Hines didn’t make cut.

I think James or Lewis for ROY.

I’m assuming Zuby will win POY.

Predicted UConn would have 3 first teamers and 1 second teamer. First time ever with 3 on the first team. When you account for Mullins on the all rookie team, that’s UConn’s starting 5 lol.

I think that one is on Shaheen.

Lewis or Mullin for ROY? IMO, Mullin might be better, but Lewis had a better yr.
Agreed. Lewis was to Villanova what Budd was to Seton Hall this year, and more, with all if it happening at a higher level. He’s really good. I think it’s one reason VU was such a bad matchup for us this year — Lewis neutralizes Budd.

@SPK145 they obviously credit team success over individual success.
His point is that some of the guys at the top of the "main" statistical categories play on teams where those stats are more inflated than they would be if said player was on a better team. A "Ricky Davis" situation. If you are on a team that is limited offensively, or constantly trailing because it plays no defense, a good player is going to have more options to generate certain statistics. Or if certain teams just don't have as many possible contributors. This year that dynamic was probably more so because of the league's imbalance and "stable" of mediocre to decent teams. Whereas for the top 2 teams in the league, they had balance and depth in certain areas that necessarily suppressed certain statistics (ie, Uconn players when it comes to scoring, or SJU's front court when it comes to rebounding and/or scoring). Plus there is the individual defensive component too.

Absolutely. These 2 guys were past winners of Big East Player of the Year with less than stellar stat lines. They were the leaders of the top team in the league.

Budd’s defensive ability has been the biggest surprise to me as regards what I thought about him. I think because of Merrimack’s unique zone/defensive approach I questioned how he would fare on that end of the court, more so than the offensive piece. Kudos to him and Sha, because the defense coupled with him being our primary offensive option is what landed him on second team all league. I don’t think he gets there based on the offensive production alone even though he is the best offensive player (on the worst offensive team in the league).

Or they defer to team success over individual success
I think it has always been a combination of both. Aquaman made first team because I think every BE coach firmly believes he would be an excellent scoring option at this level for most programs in the country, and certainly in the Big East.

No qualms with these Nice for them to honor Dix with all he's been through. Zuby would have probably won the award last year if not for Kalkbrenner's dominance. Thought the coaches might give the 6th Man Award to Darling on SJU given the impact he's provided that group coming mostly off the bench, but Askew has been a weapon for Nova in that role with his shooting ability and averages a few more per game.

Yeah, but we finished 4th in the league. That matters.
