STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's 2009 baseball recruiting class is ranked 15th nationally in the annual evaluation of NCAA Division I recruiting classes conducted by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The ranking, the highest for a Mississippi State baseball recruiting class since Collegiate Baseball ranked State's 2002 signee class at No. 15, was announced Thursday by Tucson-based publication.</p>

"This is a great recruiting class that meets our immediate needs," said first-year Bulldog skipper John Cohen. "Twelve of our 20 signees pitch, so it's easily one of the nation's top five classes based on pitching. Time will tell, but it has a chance to be the best group of new pitchers in our program's history. Our entire staff did a tremendous job putting this recruiting class together, and all in the course of four or five months."</p>

The 20-player recruiting class is the largest in the Southeastern Conference and the third-largest among the 40 schools represented in the 27th annual Collegiate Baseball listing. John Cohen's first MSU recruiting class features 13 freshmen and seven junior college transfers. Florida, one of five SEC teams with a top 15-ranked recruiting class, out-pointed Arizona State for top honors in the 27th annual Collegiate Baseball poll.</p>

Mississippi State is scheduled to begin its formal fall team practice October 2.</p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>I couldn't get google to produce the top 15 or 20.

Can anybody help?

UCF # 4?

I hate it when Florida figures things out. They have underachieved in baseball for so long.

Still looking for the list if anybody has a subscription.

Todd?

Thanks.</p>

is our highest ranked recruiting class since 2002? It's almost impossible to recruit that badly in baseball at MSU for that long without actually trying to suck. God I hate Ron Polk.

what will be the turning point to get us back where we belong is if cohen can keep this up and do it every year...

upgrade our stadium to put it back at no 1, get to the CWS, keep top 20 classes coming and and I believe we will have all the tools to be in the top 5 every year....

I think we could consistently put 10,000 in the stands on weekend games... just win baby

wooly wooly...

it was proclaimed that Cohen was getting hammered in recruiting by Bianco. Funny, but that puts all of the Mississippi teams in or at the door step of the top twenty.

Odd, but considering much of our class came from the state of Alabama, it may stand to reason.

However, I hear that Bama has racked up in the upcoming signing class.

Thanks for the information.

it will take Cohen about two more recruiting classes like this. The recruiting class that we have coming in for next year has a few guys like Daryl Norris, Wes Rea, DeMarcus Henderson, Chase Luwallen, and CT Bradford that I really, really like. I think Cohen is taking a few chances on some of the pitchers that I think will be projects, like Victor Diaz, but I don't have a big problem with that because of what we have signed out of Cohen's first class as far as pitchers.

As far as getting fans back into the stands- I think it's going to take effort from the AD, and I know with Byrne that will be there- to advertise MSU baseball to the fans that have gone away and reach out beyond the core group that goes every year. The other big thing is going to be winning. MSU needs to have a really good season- like SEC West Title at least- and that will help put the fans back. I think people got the impression- probably correctly- under Polk that winning wasn't necessarily what MSU baseball was all about when he came back. People are not going to go watch a bunch of college boys fart around and eat bar-b-que. They want to go watch a good team on SBW play good baseball and not have excuses made if they don't play well. I think this past year, people had a wait and see approach, and things didn't shake out for a variety of reasons, and so they didn't waste their time.

The facilities will come in time. As we all know, MSU has other things that have been on the back burner and now is the time for them- basketball IPF, renovating, enclosing footall field etc. The baseball stadium will be renovated in stages- for example this year was dugout expansion year and clubhouse renovation, as well as the year to replace the drainage system.

For next years class, I would like to see MSU go after some more corner infield/outfield power hitting type players, a catcher (Potentially Austin Knight of Sumrall?) and as always, pitching. I think that there's a faily good chance that Jackson Posey will end up committing to MSU this spring, and he fits the description that I'm talking about.
