Just an FYI...

Preston Palmeiro and the like will be making/inking decisions pretty soon...

ETA: He recently visited us with Rafi, so hopefully they are starting to get past all the prior baseball drama that led Rafi's previous son to play @ UAB for Polk and Shoop. Preston is a 3b and is one of the 24 highest ranked uncommitted players in the country according to Perfect Game(9.5...or the equivalent of a high 4* or low 5*)...

Would love to see the Palmeiros back involved with our baseball program...

Raffy was one of the greatest athletes to ever play any sport at MSU and his name resides on our indoor practice facility. Would love to see his son playing in an MSU uniform.

Per Preston

He recently said that he was waiting to see what kind of offers he was going to get. That was after our visit, and I believe he already has offers from MSU, Texas, LSU, Florida, and Florida State.

So, I'm not sure if he is trying to see if someone is going to sweeten the pot on signing day or if he is going to sign in the spring.

I think we have a decent chance of getting him, but it's not a slam dunk.

He could wait and be sure about his decision...certainly...that would make sense. I don't understand waiting around for a better offer though. Rafi is just worth what? $50 mil? He earned almost $90 mil. in his time in MLB...

Just don't know what further offer he wants beyond that group. That's a pretty elite offer sheet for a highschool kid.

He might be thinking it could be difficult to play in the shadow of his father ... great expectations and all.

I don't know their financial situation

But I do know that Rafael declared bankruptcy in 2011.

I do agree with you though- players have to be careful waiting around too long because baseball teams will move on if a guy waits around too long. That happened to Myles Gentry with us last year and he ended up having to walk-on.

Certainly if he waits around, he could still go to any of those schools- but the offer may be reduced.

It would be a pretty big slap in the face for him not to sign with State. I know the kid has to do what's best for him and I'm sure I don't know all the history with Polk and Cohen, but most of the State fans I know stood behind Raffy through the scandal when the rest of the nation crucified him. That should mean a lot to a son. If there are still hard feelings, it's time to get over it. Cohen was obviously the right choice, and Polk is just a crazy bastardo.

If he came to State, everyone would love him immediately. If he actually can play, then good things will come to him and his father. Then again, maybe he's not ready for the pressure.

I don't think that would be an issue at all

The other side of the coin is he has an opportunity to follow in his father's foot steps- which is something a lot of people would like to do. Also, MSU fans- especially in baseball- are very realistic and patient in general. So long as you don't cuss and yell. LOL. Our baseball fans are good about being realistic and I don't think that very many of our fans would expect him to win the SEC triple crown as a junior. And our fans are especially good to legacies- so I think it would actually be the opposite. We treat our players pretty well in general.

Pretty sure it would be more of a punch in the gut.

I agree, Patrick Palmeiro to UAB was the slap in the face so not getting Preston would be the added punch in the 'stomach'. Gotta get the verbiage right.

who can forget:
“I just got slapped in the face, punched in the stomach,” Polk said. “All my coaches have been slapped in the face, punched in the stomach by a young athletic director who has absolutely no clue what he’s doing.”

Seriously, why would Cord Sandberg need to actually sign with us in baseball since he would be on a football scholly?

Second question, does this bind him to MSU? I know the MLB can trump the signature.

I don't think Cord "signed". Kendall was just replying to a question about how MSU's class was looking...

My first instinct was the same as many here though, before I investigated it further...

No. Cord is definitely fired up about MSU baseball though.....

....but it may matter not when that draft pick comes in. Good to be in this position with an athlete like him though. Program changer in baseball AND football.

i don't think he signed

I was thinking he did, meaning he could on come here or go to MLB

Nobody reported him signing, so I guess he was just talking about him committed.
