So far, some white guy has scored almost all of our points.

I didn't know we had a white guy on our team.

There are many things that are scary about this basketball season, but the scariest is that we are likely going to give Tyson Cunningham meaningful minutes. I'm sure he's a nice guy and quality student, but he wouldn't play at a good NAIA school.

First half observations (41-36 MSU)

Borschert(?) is a perfect example of a Rick Ray player. He's full go every second he's on the floor, hit 4/6 from 3, made his free throws, goes for every rebound, gives his man nothing on defense, goes for loose balls. He came off the bench, and didn't often go back.

Fred Thomas has a nice shot, but didn't have his best shooting night. Too many cheap fouls.

Lewis and Steele were as we remember them. Lewis couldn't find the net if he wore it for underpants, but damn does he try hard. Steele's a fine shooter, played a bit of point, too.

Ware has nice touch and hustle for a 270 pounder. Didn't take enough shots to take much away.

Bloodman is a pass first guy that may end up a turnover first guy.

The whole team plays defense. Didn't take plays off. Like, agressive, I'm gonna stop you or foul you defense. Going to be foul outs that lead to ugly blowouts against real teams, but the effort is a nice change of pace.

We're turning the ball over like it's worth points.

Disclaimer: We're not a good team. In fact, we're going to be a very bad team. Just trying to highlight the positives I'm seeing.

As usual, you're a moron. We will at least beat Chaminade, New Orleans, Alcorn State, Alabama A&M, UTSA, Central Arkansas, Florida Atlantic. We certainly won't go 0-18 in the SEC. At worst, we win 10 games.

Your post got me looking at the schedule...

I had no idea this team is going to get a national showcase of how ugly it can be when we go to Maui to play North Carolina.

We also may get chaminaded.

Is that the guy that always has the same facial expression as this kid when the camera flashes to him on the bench?

Some on The Lake are saying they cant tell any difference from Rick Ray's team

and last years team in terms of philosophy. Supposedly we are jacking up a ton of threes are no real differences in his 'motion offense'. I know its only been a half of an exhibition game, but there was no need to come in and kick everyone off the team (ala Croom) to make a point, then turn around and look very similar to last years with his 'past paced motion offense'.

Absolutely wrong

Remember how Stans's teams took forever to get down the floor after we got a defensive rebound, and always let the other team get set? That's happened maybe twice total today. We go fast. It may lead to turnovers, but we'll be damned if we don't get there in a hurry.

Plus, our motion offense tends to have 1, maybe 2 players standing still, as opposed to 4.

Update: I think we're getting tired in the 2nd half. Not being nearly as active on defense, paying for it.

Well ****, this is sounding worse and worse...tired? I thought our conditioning was our strong suit.

Bulldogs up 58-51 with 13 left.

I'm following on hailstate.com. Thomas and Borchart both have 15 points. We are 19-40 from the field which is 47.5%. Also have 5 blocks, 10 assists, but 12 turnovers. First game with these guys playing together, so turnovers are expected.

I like the effort and all but why are we trying to out run people when we don't have the depth to do it? We need to play like John Chaney's Temple teams and hope we can win 38-35. We will continue to get tired in the 2nd half playing like that.

I hope Bloodman ends up being good...

he's got the potential for a fantastic nickname. Blood-money, anyone?

Calm down, it's an exhibition game. Every year a top 25 team or two loses an exhibition game for a variety of reasons:
--First game rust
--The NAIA or d2 team cares a lot more
--The coaching staff prioritizes giving players more chances over winning (since it doesn't count anyway)

There's absolutely nothing to take away from this result.

I was there. Steele, Thomas, and Borchert can drain 3's.

Johnson has very little ability, but has the biggest motor on the team.

We were horrendous in the post, and not great defensively as a whole.

The thing that pleased me the most was emotion from the bench. Ray was hoarse by halftime, and his assistants are just as intense.

We aren't good now, and probably won't make the NIT. But as the season goes on, I think you will see definite improvement from a solid group of young players.

So, just based on scheme and effort after admittedly one game, which coaching style do you like better? Old or new Rick?

The reason I ask is because we will see how much recruiting can improve us if the coaching is better. In the past we used to recruit to overcome our coaching. It will be an interesting few years just to see how that works out.

"May end up being a turnover first guy" - love that line. Who was that guy - Trey something - that was the PG on one of Stansbury's first teams. He was like that.
