On a message board regarding rumors Martin is considering SCar. A UF fan had made a snide comment about only UK & UF being "consistently good" in the SEC, and that just Tenn, Vandy, Bama & LSU have made recent runs.

I replied that MSU has been consistently good, if not great the past 20 years and could make a solid case, along with Vandy & Arky for #3 behind UK & UF (discounted Tenn due to the cheating). Then I said they shouldn't be surprised if Martin's name came up in connection with our coaching search. To this, the KSU fan sneers that we'll do that with about as much chance of landing Shaka, Stevens, Roy, Coach K or Phil Jackson. KSU has been consistently good now for 6 years, averaging 1-win-a-year more than we do over that period and this guy is acting like we're a significant step below and unworthy, as if it's laughable that a coach of Martin's caliber would even consider our school. Real jackass, with a few other stupid comments.

That shouldn't erase 20 years of accomplishment, including 7 West Division titles, 8 NCAA tourney appearances, a final four, SEC Championship, multiple SEC Tourney Championships, etc. Prior to Huggins & Martin resurrecting KSU's program they had 6 losing seasons in 13 years. threw this at the dude:
Let's look at a few facts comparing KSU to MSU the past 20:
Final Four appearance - MSU 1 KSU 0
Elite 8 - MSU 1 KSU 1
Sweet 16 - MSU 2 KSU 1
NCAA appearances - MSU 8 KSU 6
Conference Champs - MSU 1 KSU 0
Conference Tourney Champs - MSU 3 KSU 0[/b]

20+ winning seasons - MSU 12 KSU 8[/b]

[/b]

Dude said stats mean nothing, that we'd have to throw $4 mil at the guy to have even a chance against them.[/b]

is more or lessin the same tier as MSU. I heard Martin makes about $1.7-1.8M per year. They would likely go higher if they had to in order to retain him. If Rick Stansbury had the recent success of Frank Martin and they were trying to hire him from us, we would be telling them the same thing. They think they are a little more elite nationally than they are, but we have folks that fit that description as well.
