i think that's a good idea. Hope I find someone on here one day I'd like to meet.RIP.
We're all getting older. I recommend that we all get to know at least a few other guys on the forum so we can at least do these threads when one of us passes.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Bert and his family as they mourn his passing… i’m sure many stories will be told about Bert and many laughs will result. I remember Burt for many years on this site. He was always good and he was always so so smart. Rest in peace Bert.I'm posting this here, because a lot of you know Bert.
He’s been dealing with cancer for about a year and this morning, he lost the battle.
I've gotten to know Bert quite well the last few years. He definitely rubbed some people the wrong way on here, but I'm telling ya, he was a damn good man.
Most don't know this, but he was close with Joe B and The Goose. There's even a picture from the late 70's of Bert's daughter sitting on Joe B's lap. Blew me away when I saw that.
Anyway, Bert loved UK basketball and he loved his bourbon. I'm going to miss him very much. Guy was full of knowledge and great experiences.
I don't drink during the week, but I'll have one tonight.
Sorry to hear that my friend. May he RIP and all the drinkers in here raise an old fashioned in his honor next time you have one.I'm posting this here, because a lot of you know Bert.

Sorry for your loss Jay.This is a personal loss for me. I have spent many hours on the phone talking with Bert, not only about our Cats but history, family genealogy and life in general. I last spoke to Bert about two weeks ago and a few days ago his son told me the end was near. I sent him a personal message telling him how much he meant to me and that I would see him once I cross that river.
Rest In Peace my friend and thank you for all of the good times we spent in conversation. You will be sorely missed and I am a better person for having known you. Until we meet again, so long.
You also hold an underwater basket weaving degree?Would love to read that. Anything from the time in history is my jam. Wouldn’t call myself an intellect, hold modern grad degrees which mean I can count to 5.
All I'd get is:RIP.

Yeah I hope she finds comfort in all the people that share their love and time with the man. It absolutely destroys the heart of people that love that long. I too would be destroyed if my wife ever leaves me first.Yes, he showed me that book, he's very proud of it.
I'm very close with Sam, Lee, Momma Sherry and Sam's husband, Ben. Absolutely terrific people.
I'm concerned about Momma Sherry, Bert was her life partner, I can't imagine the hurt she's dealing with.
Yea I try to remember that and try my best to be respectful that they’re human beings that not just a computer name. Sometimes, because this is UK basketball, I exhibit multiple disorders at times because I’ve never been able to handle it. But I’m really so different in person. Not due to cowardice or hiding behind a screen name. Because whether you’re online or in person if you say something ridiculous about UK basketball I turn Wierd. I just have much more interaction with people discussing UK basketball here.I recognize his name. RIP.
I think sometimes we forget there's actual people behind these id's and avatars but if you're lucky sometimes thoughtful conversations and meaningful friendships can take hold and begin.
Bert worked for CSX as I did.RIP Bert...Interested to know his background of the railroad. My dad passed about 10 yrs ago. Was an original MOPAC guy and then UP later when he retired. Still have some of his watches.
What was Bert's name on here? I haven't been around nearly as long as some others, but definitely see a lot of familiar names these days.
Yeah, Bert lost his grandson, Owen, about 12 years ago in a car accident. Hearing the details of the accident wrecked me for the rest of that day.I got to know Bert in the D League, he found out that I had lost our grandson, he had a similar situation happen to him. Whenever I needed to talk he was always willing to listen to me, he told me like it was, didn't beat around the bush or sugar coat anything, helped me get through the darkest days of my life! Honor and respect Bert! Love you my friend!!!!
I can't wait to see Momma Sherry, probably be new years eve, there will be tears.Yeah I hope she finds comfort in all the people that share their love and time with the man. It absolutely destroys the heart of people that love that long. I too would be destroyed if my wife ever leaves me first.
Yes, he sure did and it’s one of the reasons I know him outside the board.Bert worked for CSX as I did.
I have ties to CSX also, my Dad was an engineer for both CSX and ICRR, my son is/was engineer, plus works out of Evansville as a yard master, train master.Bert worked for CSX as I did.
I didn't know that D league thread existed, 5000+ pages, love it.Rest in peace Bert. @kyjeff1 thank you for posting this information. I didn’t know Bert on a personal level but he always came across as a good person over on the D- League thread.
Make your way over to Muhlenberg County sometime!Nice. I’ve met a few from here. Turned out to be good friends.
Someday you’ll be in my living room.
This is exactly the way I feel. I am a few years older than Bert, my wife is the same age he was. I have very few fears in life but the one I fear the most is my wife or children or grandchildren would die before I do. If any of that happened I would ask God to lead me across the river for eternity. I was married in 1967, a year after Bert. We talked about that often..Yeah I hope she finds comfort in all the people that share their love and time with the man. It absolutely destroys the heart of people that love that long. I too would be destroyed if my wife ever leaves me first.
Geez, with some hard work y’all might become successful gah…I have ties to CSX also, my Dad was an engineer for both CSX and ICRR, my son is/was engineer, plus works out of Evansville as a yard master, train master.
Will have to do that. Sprite is on me.Make your way over to Muhlenberg County sometime!
That's what he told me when he called Jay, said he was ready! This is exactly the way I feel. I am a few years older than Bert, my wife is the same age he was. The last conversation I had with Bert he told me he was ready to go. He had lived a wonderful life with many friends and memories and he knew his time was drawing near. He was at peace. That is the situation I pray I am in on my last day on this earth. At peace with my God and my family and friends. Bert was the example to follow.
There is some restaurant I've been wanting to try in Central City, Stellions I think. Looks really good.Make your way over to Muhlenberg County sometime!

My mom's brother was an adjuster for CSX forever. Based out of West Virginia for most of his CSX days I believe. Retired back in early 2000's I believe.Bert worked for CSX as I did.
Contact me and I'll try to meet up with y'allWill have to do that. Sprite is on me.
https://www.hardyandsonfuneralhomes...tm_affiliatetype=standard&ttm_campaign=legacyHey guys, Burt's obituary is out. I typed in Warren County obits and it came up. Hardy and Sons I think it was.
Where did your uncle out of?I am saddened by the loss of Bert. It was always a pleasure to talk with him in the conversations we had in the D-League before I took a long hiatus from here. We shared a common interest in video recording. God Bless his loved ones at this time. It is always tough to lose a love one during this time of year. My Uncle is close to his age and also retired from CSX. The world would be a much better place with more people like Bert in it!
I sure hope so as well. It’s all we can ask for at the end of it all. I hope to have many more decades with my wife. I just pray I go first. I don’t want to have to mourn my kids or wife. This is exactly the way I feel. I am a few years older than Bert, my wife is the same age he was. My Uncle worked for CSX in Louisville. Not sure if it was the Osborn Yard or the Intermodal Terminal. I will be seeing him again this weekend. Always been a train enthusiast myself. He gave me an old lantern, cap and many of the old manuals, etc that he had from his days at CSX.Where did your uncle out of?
My Dad worked the yard in Central City, before that he worked in Dawson Springs when it was ICRR, then they shut down CC, he finished up in Fulton Ky. My Dad wad one of many that never got to enjoy his retirement, retired in 93, passed away in 94 of cancer! My Uncle worked for CSX in Louisville. They were going to transfer Bert to Wva, so he just went ahead and retired in his early 50's IIRC.My mom's brother was an adjuster for CSX forever. Based out of West Virginia for most of his CSX days I believe. Retired back in early 2000's I believe.
