Best team ever for east duplin... Probably win and advancement wise 2017... They were the last duplin county team to make it to the state championship game (program wise) as wrh jk and nd have each made it and won it the Panthers still seeking their first ring for football... I remember hearing that 2017 team was probably going to be the only Ed team to go to the state championship game for a long while... But I felt like they had the coaching and team to compete in the state championship game in the near future... Only time will tell where this Ed team will rank amongst the other teams that made it to the regional final and state championship game

Which of those teams won a state championship
Right now the 2017 Ed team is the closest to have won a state championship for the Panthers.... The 2022 teams future is still being written and unfortunately for you my die hard tiger fan those two teams you rather eat glass and nails than cheer for are in the regional championship game to see who advances in the east...

I will say 2017 although 2002 and 1997 were really great too. I believe if Melvin Scott hadn't gotten hurt in the state championship game, we might have won a ring. That team had a 2-headed monster in the backfield of Scott and Chris Benson. Great defense as well.

This year's team is still writing their story and they looked really good tonight.

Lol, I respect EDs coach very much and know some of the players on WRHs team and their families very well. I am very happy for both teams and looking forward to a great game. But, yes, I grit my teeth having to pull for either team lol

The 2022 East Duplin Panthers football team completed the journey by winning the championship. They have to get some love now. They may not have passed the bus test, but they definitely passed the ultimate test by winning the big one. Any team that goes through James Kenan twice, Wallace-Rose Hill twice, Clinton, Whiteville, and Reidsville has done something special. This was a team that was destined to win.

WRH's team in 94 was not one of the best teams they ever had. In my opinion the 87? team that lost to eventual state champs whiteville with McGlockton was the best WRH team ever. Top to bottom. Just because the team didn't win it all doesn't mean they weren't as good as some that did. That team would've destroyed 94's group. Clinton lost a RB (Leonard Henry I believe) that year (94). Wallace lost in reg season when Henry played and won against them in the playoffs without Henry. Lots of variables affect the outcomes. ED beat that group either that year or around the years that group was at Wallace. Settled by a field goal 2-3 years in a row if my ancient mind is cooperating.

The tread was not asking what was WRH's best team. Out of respect for ED don't hijack the tread. And it wasn't Leonard in 94. I think that it was a kid whose last name was Faison. Not sure! I think that Leonard was a Jr. on the 97 team.

Thread? I think it may have been LC Stevens. I was drawing a comparison, but I guess that's too tough for you to figure out. It's a free country. I didn't disrespect "ED". I'll help you out...The point is just because they're the state champs doesn't necessarily mean they're the best team to ever play there. Here comes the comparison...get ready...WRH's best team (to me) was one that never won it. Furthermore, the team with Nate Irving was probably better than a couple that did too. If you need more help let me know. Happy to oblige. This tread or another tread.

Wiz your old school. Like me. I was on the 1997 team. We were tough for sure but this team I just watched was tougher. Them boys were warriors. My vote is 2022 team. In 1997, we didn’t have any close games. Vishon Scored 48 TDS with zero in the fourth quarter. Maybe Clinton had an all time team that year but watching this team literally win several games on two point conversion stops and onside kick stops is so hard. Hats off to 1997 dark horses but that’s old news. 2022 panthers did it. And they earned it…

Fun fact about 1997. You guys were bigger, faster and stronger. First game you lined up with zero splits for the lineman. They lined up with feet touching. It obviously helped ED. Second game, 18-24 splits was the difference. Spread us out and it worked. Sometimes it’s the little things…

1997 team was the best without question. That year ED and Clinton broke the State record for offense and defense in the same year. That is hard to do. V was the best player we ever had. Unfortunately Clinton had L Henry, Willie Parker, and Byron Peterson in the same backfield.

Hard to pick one 1987 was the team that put ED on the map and made us relevant, 1997 was a team that had an unbelievable backfield in Vishone and William Brown but those guys were tough all over the field too. 2002 was another monster team with a ton of athletes. 2010 was a team that met Tarboro and Gurley two years in a row, if that doesn't happen I think that team get's a championship in at least one of those years. 2017 without a doubt had the most athletes and deserved to win a championship and probably would have had Melvin not went down early. In the end 2022 got the job done and they have to go down as the best.

I need Wiz to answer this question. I did not think Leonard Henry was on the 97 team as I thought he had finished a year before and his last season was 96. Bryant Peterson and Willie Parker were juniors and 97, is that correct?

As mentioned ED lost to Tarboro in 2010 and 2011 by 3 and eight points respectively. in 2011 the state association went to that stupid pod system and had Tarboro and ED play an early in playoffs. By that point in the season east Duplin was without five starters on Defense due to injury and discipline action and loss by 8 points to Todd Gurley and Company. and yes the 2022 team did put it all together, had a magnificent run and stayed focused the whole season. That included a season of beating James Keenan twice, Wallace Rosehill twice, Clinton, Whiteville and Reidsville. Ihave talked to a couple of the guys and they feel like Clinton Wallace we’re probably better than Reidsville
