Just making things interesting before the season starts. Who had the best defense and who had the best offense in 4A in history of N.C. I know it may be debatable.
That was a stout defense for sureNew Bern's D in 2014 was solid, and that was without future 1st round pick, Mike Hughes playing D. Most offensive TD's they gave up on D in a game were 2. They held Catholic to something like negative 15-20 yards in the first half of the 4A title game. NB gave up 56 points in 5 games in the playoffs -- almost half of those points were scored in the 4th quarter of a blowout.
Without diving to deep into it I would say
2004 Indy- Offense
2012 Butler- Defense ( especially when they were 100% healthy)
That was a very good defense. When Hughes was playing CB that defense was able to play so aggressive. They just came at you full force every play and put a lot of pressure on the offense. When teams threw the ball they did not have much time and they basically had to use the side of the field that Hughes did not occupy.New Bern's D in 2014 was solid, and that was without future 1st round pick, Mike Hughes playing D. That 01 Laney defense may have been good, but their playing field was God-awful.Indy may hold the best 3-4 offensives in state history but the 2004 Indy offense was the best I have ever seen. They were just better than you no matter what defense was run.
The 2001 Laney defense was the best Ive seen as well and Indy just throttled them. That 2001 Laney team also rushed for 5300 yards.
Still is. Played there in 2012 and it was soaking wet, but hadn't rained in weeks. Thought they pulled the ole sprinkler trick. The 19 points we scored on them was the lowest total of the year, and it had nothing to do with their defense. That 01 Laney defense may have been good, but their playing field was God-awful.
I was at that game and I can’t argue with you. The field sloped really bad toward the visitors side, however that has been fixed. I have always liked Laneys venue. There is not a track around the field and the bleachers are very close. It is as close to the field as you will get. It is a small stadium but can get very loud.Still is. Thought the Frost defense was very good but I will take the 2012 group when Polofsky and Hanes were healthy. 3 D1 LB's in Wiggins-Kalmabyi-Stewart. Stribling and Hanes in the back 4. They were very stout.I liked the 2010 Butler defense better because of the teams they played like Tabor, Richmond twice, Indy (when they were still good), Page (who won the championship the following season). We missed out on Mallard Creek vs Butler west final which would’ve made that team an all time great team if Butler beat them. Its one of my favorite teams.
Catholic's 2015 defense was very underrated at the 4A level.
Held 60ppg JHR to 13 offensive points.Church boy, that team's defense might be top 50...........

Catholic smashed HPC with multiple D1 players on the Bison in 2013 and 14. One of whom became a classmate of mine at UNCC. A great guy, but come on son.Lol swo held Cummings avg 65 a game to 14 pts in 2004. List goes on church boy, CC in 2015 wouldn't stand a chance against high power HPC or Thomasville 95. You know this man, stop hyping the church boys
Hater in the house!I can tell you who has neither one, Richmond!
