What house did Brands build?Im sitting outside the house that brands built and reading all this ********. You losers need to get a life and touch grass. Pretend that the other guy wants to win too.

I would imagine his confidence comes from his potential stable of assistants and that he would be a CEO type but even his ability to be in the room consistently is iffy due to him being immunocompromised for life.I assume if he’s offering, he’s confident in his ability to do it (physically).
Iowa will maybe win one match against PSU. Ditto for ISU.. I guess a big deal to lose to ISU but it certainly is not because ISU has gotten better... The Iowa program has come back to ISU's level. That is disturbing. You understand NIL GO clearinghouse is now a thing and all deals gotta be cleared. And wrestlers valuations arent 6 figures . It's ok the sun will come up tomorrow and March is 3 months away
Both Desanto and Eierman came in and beat their Penn St counterparts then after working with Brands long enough....they no longer could. Although not transfers same could be said about Kem and Big Tony. My point is...it's getting easy to coach other elites vs Iowa guys. Why is that? Genuinely asking? Is the Iowa style under Brands easy to match plan against?I would add Lugo, Desanto and Eierman. Eierman obviously had the ACL his senior year but they got him to the finals the year before. Desanto went from R12 to high AA. Lugo made huge gains in my opinion.
Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center. Greatest wrestling facility in the nation! What house did Brands build?
That’s a strawman. They were proven to have better results at Iowa than their prior schools. Both Desanto and Eierman came in and beating their Penn St counterparts then after working with Brands long enough....they no longer could.
I agree with that. So knowing that...why dont they bring in other coaches who are strong in what they are not?I think TnT's wheelhouse is maximizing the potential of wrestlers similar to them: relentless grinders, with toughness off the charts. Guys like Cory Clark and Derek St John. Those guys are the exception
By comparison, in their respective sports, Iowa wrestling has more resources, and it isn’t even close. Are you being serious right now?
Iowa wrestling has it all compared to nearly every other program - money, tradition, and top-notch facilities, with only two programs coming close.
Now look at Iowa football. Compare its NIL, tradition, and facilities to the top 10 programs in college football.
You personally know her and have talked with her on this issue? She knows Iowa needs to move on from the twins and she wants to but the issue is the new coach has to be a clear upgrade.
Nolf has his own academy in Texas. I think he is moved on to BJJ competively.Jason Nolf
It took Smith a LONNNNNGGGGG time to realize it was time to go and he had basically run OSU into the ground.Even John Smith realized it was time.
Aren’t they placing a cap on NIL amounts? I thought the season of the sugar daddy was winding down.NIL valuations for football and wrestling are night and day. Also the money you speak of I assume is Bob's $ and he's said when Tom is done he's done donating. When Tom does retire some of you people are in for a rude awakening
Careful. Corby said we’ll rue the day TnT retire because they’re fixing to move third base further from home plate. It took Smith a LONNNNNGGGGG time to realize it was time to go and he had basically run OSU into the ground.
Since our last title we've been in a slow decline...so slow that many don't realize it's happening. But it is happening and we're going to wake up one day and wonder WTF happened and why we're competing for 5-8th place in March instead of top 3.
Make Dake and/or Burroughs an offer they can't refuse. First to accept gets the job.
Hiring the guy behind the Askren Academy would have some benefits. But the guy has always hated Iowa.Does that nean Ben wants to coach at Iowa??
Lets goooooooo!!!!!
The top 5 p4p recruits typically are not of the Brands mold and thus aren't interested in Iowa. Perry might be the last wrestler that figured out a nemesis under Brands. That kind of stat is telling to recruits. If I were an opposing coach that's one I'd hammer home.I think the biggest issue is recruiting. I don’t think they are great at evaluating talent. How many recruits(not transfers) have they brought in and won national championships in the last 10 yrs.
Neither have the name cache or coaching background that DT had.
2. Clark & Lee.I think the biggest issue is recruiting. I don’t think they are great at evaluating talent. How many recruits(not transfers) have they brought in and won national championships in the last 10 yrs.
JB is a star and had more international success but I'd argue that Magic Man is a bigger star in the wrestling world than either JB or Dake. DT ran one of the best Academies in the country, just like Askren. IMO that's just as good, or better than being an assistant coach.Yes they do. JB is a bigger star than DT and Dake is just as big. Both have been college assistants too which DT never was before getting a HC job
I’ve been under the impression that TnT don’t really go after top talent that doesn’t seem to exhibit their idea of desired characteristics on and off the mat.The top 5 p4p recruits typically are not of the Brands mold and thus aren't interested in Iowa. Perry might be the last wrestler that figured out a nemesis under Brands. That kind of stat is telling to recruits. If I were an opposing coach that's one I'd hammer home.
Just like the football programSometimes even if it's good coaches it's time for a change. The program needs a breath of fresh air.
Love FletchMaybe you need a refresher course. It's all handfighting and ball bearings nowadays
But if NIL Go is putting a cap on deals why would a big donor matter as much anymore?NIL valuations for football and wrestling are night and day. Also the money you speak of I assume is Bob's $ and he's said when Tom is done he's done donating. When Tom does retire some of you people are in for a rude awakening
Maybe tom should say that to the team then ask them what their excuse is for stalling so muchYou do recall he almost died a couple months ago and is a double lung transplant recipient? He's going to have his hands full health wise for the foreseeable future.
100. this has been the issue since 2010. They are way behind PSU and now OSU in recruiting. Its been below standard for 15 years outside of the Spencer Lee 2 year window. which resulted in a title. its not complicated. They are not good at recruiting. I dont even understand how its debatable at this point. Look at recruiting news.I think the biggest issue is recruiting. I don’t think they are great at evaluating talent. How many recruits(not transfers) have they brought in and won national championships in the last 10 yrs.
I disagree. Both are very well known, they've won at every level, they've helped develop young talent, and most importantly both are very intelligent and great communicators. Does that automatically mean either will be a great head coach? Not necessarily but it sure checks a lot of boxes. I've been a fan for over 30 years now and Tom was absolutely the right hire at the time. He's had a really good run and been great for the program. But it's time for some new blood.
What have either done to deserve an offer they can't refuse. Neither have the name cache or coaching background that DT had.
We could still finish anywhere between 2nd to 8th, imho. Still pretty early and i dont think there is a ton of separation between the teams you mentioned after psu. Which teams improve the most, stay healthy, peak at the right time and which teams peak in january/february, get banged up, have tough draws, etc.Are we even a top five program this year?!? Penn State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa State. Do we even have chance in these duals?!? I know we beat OK St in Oklahoma but I wouldn’t bet against them at home in Stillwater at the end of the season.
Does DT, without huge $$$ from Richison, get the recruits at Iowa that he got at OSU?? And I say that with great respect on what Bob does for the program, but Richison is a billionaire. We had that chance two years ago with DT and Iowa completely blew it. Okie State was ready to hire Coleman and instead ended up making the biggest hire since Cael went to PSU.
What’s funny is I remember the thread after NCAAs with the Gadson tweet about Beth wanting to move on from TNT to bring in DT. All the Brands apologists laughed. They couldn’t imagine letting go of our mediocre staff to hire the most popular American wrestler in the last twenty years, even without any college coaching experience. Whose laughing now?
I’m sure their response will be “TNT is 2-0 vs DT,” but just like TNT, those people can’t look past their noses. Which program has the better trajectory over the next 2 to 5+ years? Anyone who says Iowa is fooling themselves.
Caliendo and Desanto are great examples.I think TnT's wheelhouse is maximizing the potential of wrestlers similar to them: relentless grinders, with toughness off the charts. Guys like Cory Clark and Derek St John. Those guys are the exception
All of them? Not sure. Most of them? Yeah, I do think so. Having the big donor obviously helps a ton, but DT also has the name and the popularity. Now he’s got to capitalize on that and win something in the next few years, but I really think he gets it done. At the very least, I feel like he’ll be way more competitive with PSU than Iowa will be over the next 2–4 years.Does DT, without huge $$$ from Richison, get the recruits at Iowa that he got at OSU?? And I say that with great respect on what Bob does for the program, but Richison is a billionaire.
Both brought elite scrambling, riding and turning with them. Because you dont acquire that x factor once on campus. If it was taught then Ramos, Desanto, Gilman and Ayala would all have 2 titles each. Yet in every elite head to head PSU seems way more savvy and comfortable in the uncomfortable. That's not an accident.2. Clark & Lee.
What resources does Iowa football have compared to top 20 football programs? Now do the same with Iowa wrestling. Your reasoning is not even close.Limited resources they get 105 scholarships. Wrestling has 9.9. And now NIL GO clearinghouse is a thing. And football NIL valuations dwarf wrestling valuations
There's two he wouldn't have gotten because the Raney's were going to Iowa until a big late offer. All of them? Not sure. Most of them? Yeah, I do think so. Having the big donor obviously helps a ton, but DT also has the name and the popularity. Now he’s got to capitalize on that and win something in the next few years, but I really think he gets it done. At the very least, I feel like he’ll be way more competitive with PSU than Iowa will be over the next 2–4 years.
Also, I said it earlier, but if Bob stops donating to the program once Tom is gone, he's not a fan of Iowa wrestling. He's a fan of Tom Brands.
