Better Career, Relf or Archie?

The point is that you're looking at eras, not at players. Jim Plunkett won the Heisman in 1970 with a 53% completion percentage and around 2700 yards passing. I'll bet Chris Relf put up better career numbers than Plunkett too, or at least had a better QB rating.

It's like comparing baseball stats from the 50s to baseball stats from now. It doesn't make sense.

Oh, and Tiger Woods is the best golfer ever because he hits the ball a lot further than Nicklaus, Snead, and those other guys from generations ago.

I'm assuming the comparison was tongue in cheek.

tells me that you recognize the legend of Archie. Why else do it? Archie will still be Archie in a yr, and Relf will be "oh yeah that guy that played Qb for Mississippi" in the National media. Archie a *****? Gotta love message boards where a guy can sit back and call a guy, who is widely recognized as one of the best college players of all time, a *****. Ya'll are enjoying an unprecedented run against us right now. These are your glory days. Even now the envy doesn't stop...

you are here to stir ****. I let State fans get more of a pass if they are sheepish.

It's interesting b/c Relf's stats match up with Archie's. It's as simple as that.

On April Fools before his Senior year, the Clarion Ledger ran an article saying that he was quitting football to concentrate on becoming a Major Leaguer. (Then) Rebel fans everywhere were outraged and calling the paper.

..Archie had the media machinery behind him, & Archie played during an era when the perception was the only legitimate college football program in the state of Mississippi was Ole Miss.

Relf played in an era when MSU, OM & USM were all on equal footing as far the media perception went.

Relf never had a media -friendly win against a storied program (Michigan notwithstanding) so nobody was ever going to record a song about Relf.

But Relf was a quiet blue collar guy who will never be topped as far as what he accomplished against the University of Mississippi.

I am biased, but I'll take Relf over Archie.

And if you were alive and watching football during the Archie era, then you know what was going on at the time and why Ole Miss took a good quarterback and made him a living legend.<div>
</div><div>Good QB and good team leader, and from what I can tell a good man and most likely a good father.</div><div>
</div><div>But do any other college programs still immortalize a player like Ole Miss does? Maybe high school's but I don't remember seeing this at the college level.</div>

...I remember watching Saints broadcasts when he was playing. Seems like he was cussing histeammates after every play. Of course, if you were getting hit all the time like he was you wouldn't blame him.

the hell archies legend came from. i can understand the love from them for the guy but how the hell he has achieved "legend" status is beyond me. It is a plastic legend. That said, would also like to see archies numbers vs. waynes.
He did produce two super bowl winning sons. Must have been from his wife's gene pool though, because Arch was terrible.**Saints
