Saw on Twitter where Staley checked in at 231 lbs. That's pretty good news. Looks like he may be serious about playing football. Also, we got a LB from Alabama (Holcombe sp???) to give a verbal. I think he's a 4*. Looks like our recruiting is doing horrible********

And now he is looking very sharp...probably nerves.

Apparently Fitzgerald has looked good as well.

Anyone else have any reports on other guys?

I've seen some tweets about a few guys looking good, but nothing really specific. Also, Alabama commit Bo Scarborough was at camp today and there's a good picture floating around of Mullen and Bo having a 1 on 1 conversation on Scott Field. I doubt we get a guy like him, but that's a huge statement that a guy from Tuscaloosa that's been a Bama commit since September of last year wanted to come to camp.

I just

don't see what is appealing about going to a place where there are four guys ahead of you that are 5* I mean yeah I know there's the whole National Title deal, but these kids are interested in getting to the NFL. Why not go somewhere where you have a greater chance of getting PT? It's not like we don't put RBs in the NFL, either.

I completely agree.

RB is the most overrated position in terms of having to go to a good school to end up being really good. Go look at the guys starting RB in the NFL. They came from schools like Fresno State, ECU, Rutgers, Tulane, I mean the list of lower tier D1 schools goes on and on. We have a good list of drafted NFL RBs in the last 10 years with Jerious, Dixon, Ballard, and soon to be Perkins.

But Bo looks like one of those guys that would go to Bama as a RB. 6' 2" 225 pounds and ripped to hell. He's a monster, but with us finally addressing the OL with some solid guys in last years class and this class, Bo could do some great things for us. I just wish some of these guys, like you said, would understand that they can come to a school like ours and still be solid performers. May not win an SEC title or National title, but you get early playing time and you get good coaching because we've finally got a solid, well rounded staff.

Justin Johnson

was offered tonight by our staff. WR from Hoover. 6'4" 205. Don't know much about him. ********I'm sure he sucks since he's not a 5*

Yeah, that LB from Alabama had offers from powerhouses such as

Furman, Northern Illinois, Tulane, among others.

Take that, Furman! I bet you never try to recruit against us ever again!

Some people just don't get it.

He's a 4 star on 24/7 and I trust them a lot more than Scout and Rivals, who haven't even evaluated him yet. Forget the offers he has, there are so many examples of guys with bad offers or no offers that ended up being tremendous football players for us. Chris Jones was told in July of last year by USM that he couldn't play CUSA football. Johnthan Banks had zero offers other than ours and he turned out to be one of the best football players in our history. Benardrick McKinney had zero offers other than ours and he had over 100 tackles as a freshman. He could end up being the most productive tackler in our history.

Holcombe is a 4 star on 24/7, so it isn't as if he's a nobody. I completely trust our staff when it comes to evaluating talent. He's 6' 3'' 208 pounds and has a frame that will hold 230-235. Put him next to Gerri Green (hopefully) and Deshon Cooper and you have a nasty group of LBs in this class.

Paul has been raving about Deshon Cooper based on what he did at camp.

I think Deshon and a few others are going to get a nice bump up during this camp

I've heard a lot of people think he is flying under the radar and will end up looking like a solid pickup by the end of recruiting season. He's got some good offers like WV, USF, Louisville, Michigan State, Vandy, UK. I think him, Lashard Durr, Elijah Staley, Nick Fitzgerald, and Chris Raymond will all get some good bumps up from this weekend.

so maybe that has turned a few schools away? Not a bad offer list : Kentucky, Vandy, NC State, Georgia Tech. He has SEC linebacker size and looks like he can move. I'll trust our coaching staff on a guy like this. Welcome Keith. You'll look good in Maroon

Do yall know where we're holding it this year? The artificial turf field outside the new complex? I assume the stadium is off limits for a dozen reasons, namely insurance.

Quit bitching about stars. You do realize that we have signed 4 and 5 star players under Mullen and none of them have been as good as their 2 or 3 star counterparts? A few of them have even entered the discussion (not necessarily the best, but deserve reference) of being perhaps the best in school history at their position... Banks maybe being the best single player ever (again, probably not but he's definitely in the discussion).

I like getting bluechip guys too, but the few we've signed don't play immediately anyway. There are a lot more important things than being in shape to play D1 football straight out of high school that so many scouts put weight on.

Big Dawg Camp is the most important thing for us recruiting wise. I think we'll see a lot in the next couple of weeks.

Fletcher Cox, Chad Bumphis, Chris White, Pernell McPhee, K.J. Wright, Jamar Chaney, Josh Boyd, Anthony Dixon, Derek Sherrod and Charles Mitchell all think you're full of ****. Our best players under Mullen have, shockingly, best many of our more highly-regarded recruits.

Quick question: does big dawg camp last one night? I thought I remembered it lasting the entire weekend.

2-sides to that coin:

Darius Slay, Deontae Skinner, Nickoe Whitley, Jon Banks, Gabe Jackson, Dillon Day, Vick Ballard, Malcolm Johnson, and Benardrick McKinney were all 2-3 stars...

My point.....

2-sides to that coin:

Darius Slay, Deontae Skinner, Nickoe Whitley, Jon Banks, Gabe Jackson, Dillon Day, Vick Ballard, Malcolm Johnson, and Benardrick McKinney were all 2-3 stars...

... is this.

And you even make some of my point for me. All of those guys were anywhere between reliable starters to absolute studs, but even as great as some of them were, they still were right there with 2 star guys. Josh Boyd who you inaccurately put on your list was a 3 star and was RIGHT THERE with Cox. Anthony Dixon is the heart and soul of this program, but we actually upgraded our running attack with Ballard a year later. Charles Mitchell was as solid as you could ask for but he was the 2nd best safety his his junior and senior seasons. Even Russell as great as he's been statistically hasn't had as much success as poor ole Relf.

Even ya boy Chris White only got us as an offer. I like White, so don't defensive about it. I'm just trying to say scout, rivals, and whoever are full of ****. It's a bunch of meaningless "rankings" that websites have created to make money and we buy into it as the be-all of our future success.

I'm not arguing that only 2 and 3 stars are successful in our program. That would be stupid as ****. That would be the dumbest thing to be proud of even if it were true. Of course some 4 and 5 stars come out the other end successful. My point was that everyone needs to get the sand out of their vaginas about taking commitments from 2 and 3 star guys. Mullen has proven he can evaluate talent. This gets brought up every single summer and gets shot to hell every single season and someone makes its rounds the second everyone is bored and follows recruiting.

Mullen knows 1000000 times more about talent evaluation than any ******* journalist on the internet.
