“The Big 10 has asked us to submit proposals,” Hill told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I’m sure they have asked a number of cities. We are certainly interested, will put our best foot forward, and know there is no better place for their football championship.”

Why would the Big Ten want to swing more tourist dollars to a city not at all in their geographic footprint? Stupid unless Las Vegas is going to pay for it. Also, this just makes going to a game even more expensive for everyone. It's exactly the kind of thing there is already too much of in college football. Host it in a Big Ten state.

Have to appease the west coast teams with a closer game. But still appease the rest of the conference by not going all the way to the west coast.

Can't have a "national conference" but keep everything in one regional area.

As you aptly said - its the new normal in college football. Regionalism is dead.

Agree, Las Vegas consideration is a response to the new west coast footprint. Does anyone from California or east coast really want to go to Indianapolis in December?

I'd say for starters that west coast teams make up a tiny chunk of the conference and being newcomers that had nowhere else to go don't need to be appeased. And getting to California is no harder than getting to Las Vegas unless you're driving, which can't be too many people. If you want to rotate among Chicago, LA, New York then that's better.

Our family has season tickets for the raiders and I can tell you,so far, they are easy to sell when we choose. A good investment . Everyone wants to go to a game in Las Vegas, especially the "bros".

Not appeasement. Soliciting proposals, evaluating them, and then making a decision, just like any responsible organization would do.

Eh. I would assume the Big Ten doesn't even solicit a proposal from Las Vegas if UCLA/USC were never added.

Was there any prior indication the conference would move a conference tournament West before the recent expansion?

There is precedent for moving a tournament towards expansion teams:
2017 and 2018 Big Ten Basketball Tournaments were moved near Maryland/Rutgers after expansion.

I’ve heard there are things to do in Vegas 😂

How about the Rose Bowl as well and Met Life Stadium?

Lucas Oil is real nice stadium but a national conference needs to have its championship game all over the country and in hopping places !

Probably not. But now that they’re joining, Vegas becomes feasible, especially if terms are favorable. Right now, I assume they’re renting out Lucas oil, and Indianapolis isn’t exactly the best place in December.Vegas is a much more fun and warmer place to be.

I was there for the Oregon/Utah Championship a few years ago. Vegas knows how to host events. Hit the casinos after the game and had a ton of funny. Party with Oregon and Utah fans. Went to a strip club with Utah fans.

Vegas is cheaper with far more to do than Indianapolis. I mean you can get a decent room in early December for u see $50. There always inexpensive airfares and direct flights from most major cities. Tons to see and do. You got all the glitz of Vegas and the casino but a short trip you have some of the most beautiful nature anywhere. What does Indianapolis have over it?

CFB title games come-up on short notice and driving to a game should be an option.
Driving to Vegas is not a great option.
Sports is merging with gambling ann now with LV - no surprise.
Players will be staying in casinos with penalties over their heads while NCAA "chases the bag."

Why Met Life Stadium? It's a crap hole with no roof for a Winter game.

Good g-d keep the Game in our natural footprint…. Indy, Detroit, Meadowlands, Washington DC.
LV is the biggest rip off going.

Just keep the Las Vegas Bowl tie-in. That’s enough

How many people will actually drive if say the game is USC vs Rutgers? You are going to base the location based on a small percentage of those in attendance? I am sure for every person you lose due to not driving distance you will pick up more who would go to Vegas due to it being cheaper to get to and stay along with more to do. I know my wife is far more likely to say let’s go to a weekend in Vegas than Indianapolis. I willing to bet you have more people going just because they can get comped room than because it drivable.

Things escalated after 2018 when SCOTUS put gambling laws in hands of the states ) who of course were also going to "chase the bag" as Prime says).


"When the Supreme Court struck down a federal law in 2018, leaving sports gambling in the hands of states, the gold rush was on in an exploding market.

Soon, major leagues (and their teams) cut deals with sports books, tapping into a new revenue source. They also believed that gambling would help fan engagement and television ratings, which had been flagging. It’s appeasement. They didn’t solicit proposals anywhere in the eastern 85 % of the country.

Doesn’t matter though. Until we have a field house we can’t possibly be expected to compete in this conference. None of us will have an opportunity to see RU play there so who cares. The stellar coach is 100% blame-free in our football fiasco, right Al ?

Because there was no other place on the east coast viable in December. Won’t get a good turnout for an outside affair.

Apparently the reality is that the crush to use LV as a host city has not been "going on for years" by NCAA, NFL and others

Of course the B1G could legally do that. I was just wondering if there would be anything wrong with it from a practical standpoint. A number of posters seem to be assuming that the game has to be in the same place every year.

I think the Big 10 has came out and said the championship game will be indoors unless it’s held in a warm climate. Since this is the first opportunity to go to a warm climate for it they are checking it out.

They don’t want the game played in wintertime Weather like the Big 10 states have.
