I know that people love to pretend that they would not be "A yes man" but it is always pretty clear which people have never held a real job before.

If you have had a real job before, you have been a "yes man", if you have been married you have been a "yes man"

It doesn't make you weak it makes you normal. If you have a real job, you are not going to "risk it all" to say "No" to your boss when it is not some moral life or death issue. Hiring a coach is not "that issue"

In the real world of jobs, sometimes you have to listen to your boss.

Of course we all have to listen to our bosses. But when you gift a terrible coach a ridiculous contract extension, man up and take responsibility for it. Don't write a book years later crying about how that big meanie Ronnie Green made you do it.

This whole pass-the-buck mentality is one of the reasons so many ahtletic departments just go-along-to-get-along, and end up doing the bidding of agents and flushing millions of dollars down the toilet.

I get that, but what does it accomplish now?

Like had he said "I should not have given Frost a new contract" would you have cared? I wouldn't.

Now, if Green did make him do it and his choice was "Do it or get canned", I would do it too, I would rather keep my very nice job and the very nice paycheck.

That would have left a better impression than blubbering about how Ronnie Green walked all over him.

I'm not jumping on Amazon to buy a Bill Moos memoir either way, but I don't think this will have the impact Moos hoped for. That's what I'm saying.

That is fair!

For me it doesn't change anything and I would not buy the book either.

That doesn’t mean you have to agree with him you can speak your mind and tell him your opinion, he should at least be able to listen to your point of view.

My opinion is that Moos said some of the quiet parts out loud. When he was the AD, a lot of people were writing and posting things about him being a puppet or as was stated before a yes man. He was never here, when he was he was drunk etc. Then they act surprised or in disbelief when he confirms that he was a yes man and that they thought he had a drinking problem to the point he couldn't drink at events where he was representing the school. I doubt all, or even a majority, of what he says is accurate, but I would venture to say it does confirm some of what was discussed on the boards during his tenure.

Didn't Moos spend more time at his Washington ranch than he did in Lincoln? Not sure he should be throwing stones when he was largely absent during his tenure here.

Who thinks its ok to bring their wingman to a job interview? Did Moos tell Ronnie Green that Frost did that? Did they not huddle up and discuss that something was off with that? If that was true, it sounds about as mature as Shedeur wearing his headphones to his pre-draft NFL interviews. Sounds like Moos' wife was the smartest one in the room.

Okay that is the part I was unclear about it...so Frost brought who to the interivew?

And, who was the person that told Moos "He is not ready"?

That’s the rumor I heard they went to find him in his office and he no where to be found.

It seems like Trev could/ would write nearly the same thing. He was smart enough to get out and not leave his destiny to others not worthy of his trust.
The best will be when that former iowa AD writes a book

"So, we managed to convince the fans that we could never win anything, which made things so easy for me and Coach Kurt...so I just kept giving him giant raises and extensions and he keep giving me kick backs and it was all good...the stupid fans were happy with a #WinningSeason and never wanted more, we just kept laughing all the way to the bank"

Personally it's why I think we need a coach who has enough power, and experience to tell the higher ups to go fly a kite and leave him to build the program. But we tried to do this with SF, which was a complete failure.

1. Ronnie Green was a beta. betas are incapable of walking on people.
2. Moos is an alcoholic. Believe 100% of what you see, 50% of what you read, and 25% of what you hear.
3. Possible bad hires notwithstanding, the overstepping of Coaches, Regents, and university administration into the responsibilities of the AD started, maintained, and continues the irrelevance of NU football.

In regard to all the talk about being good stewards of the program, how does the current set of clowns fare, if any better than those of the prior regime?
Our current leadership might be worse.

It bid against itself in order to extend a mediocre-at-best coach for a billion dollars, effectively chaining the program for several years to a guy that's getting owned by every program with a pulse.

The absolute best thing that could have happened right around the Minnesota game last year would have been to contact our old buddy Barry Alvarez and see if, for a cool couple million, he could convince PSU that they needed to hire Rhule to come in as the head guy, an experienced and stabilizing force.

Barry has experience doing that.

Could have got out of that contract free and clear and hit the reset button this fall (something that effectively happened anyway -- minus the head guy -- with the coaching changes and QB departure) instead of 2 seasons from now, when it will still be really expensive to exit.

Instead, our leadership got owned by an agent which will cost millions and a couple of years

The thing I most appreciated about Moos was his unique ability to run the entire athletic department while being completely isolated at his ranch. Solid leadership.

UNL is good at allowing remote leadership. Do I need to remind everyone how Mike Riley never owned a home in Lincoln and his wife stayed back in Corvallis with their daughter and grandchild. I've got to believe Smiling Mike spent lots of time in Corvallis during his time as the Husker head coach.

Hmm a game 8 years later confirms your decision.

No joke. Had they played each other every year since 2019 how many would have Nebraska won. Even 4 months ago if this news came out we would have been ticked off that we took Hoiberg over Dana.

it's fascinating to read his take on those events.. filter it like everything else, but it's still interesting to read.. I do not doubt the power struggles and other mickey mouse things that went on behind the scenes though.

Well for starters… the coach shows up for practice regularly… so there’s that

Didn't Riley live in a hotel and they did buy a house but his wife is allergic to a lot of paints, so she couldn't stay in it?

I think Billy C lived in a hotel for a bit too. Then got a place/

They made an offer on a condo as I remember then they found Mrs. Riley was allergic to the building materials. My question always was that the only property for sale in Lincoln. She obviously lives in somewhere so it can be done. At one time they had a house in Corvallis and one on the Oregon coast. Then I read an article that she was back in Corvallis with their daughter and grandchild child. When Riley drove off after being fired he was driving a Prius with Oregon tags. Highest paid state employee and he never owned a home and still drove a car with cheap Oregon license plates. I would say there was no commitment on Riley’s part.

That is what it was!

I mean, she had no intention of living in Lincoln "full time" that is true and really, with that kind of money, she can clearly come back for all the games and that ****. Plus, I don't care what the wife does.

But clearly he was not "all in" when it comes to the perception. That is where Matt and him differ. Matt gives the perception that he is all in, his wife opened up some lame fake store and they have both really embraced the state.

Frost hated being back and was so weird about the media.
