Ever since Flo and Eddies burned down..

I just get the feeling that everything good is going to go up in smoke and an unstoppable Alabama running attack.

Simmons makes as much sense as that BS that Ms Teen South Carolina blurted out a few yrs ago (link to a classic):

That said, MSU can blame our problems on disturbing the Indians burial ground and the bones of Bully every time we put new drainage, irrigation, and turf on Scott Field.

I'm a huge Bill Simmons fan, but this is one of the weirdest things I've ever heard anyone say.

He's one of the only ESPN employees who is tolerable. He makes educated comments which is refreshing. He got suspended by ESPN earlier this year by calling Skip Bayless an embarrassment. Sadly this was not one of them.

He was talking so highly about Memphis during the series and in his tweets the day after game 4.

I heard this original discussion, and it was really about how this is the biggest thing in Memphis sports history possibly. How an event like MLK change change the identity of a city, which it did. They had graphics up about biggest Memphis sports accomplishments, and it was "Final four run", Penny Hardaway rise, and that was about it. The analogy was supposed to be similar to a WAOM moment type thing, where we expect the worst to happen. See: Bryce Drew. He was talking about how the signs don't say "Believe Grizzlies" they say "Believe Memphis"

That said, it was still stupid, but a little less when hearing the whole crew talking about it.

I don't think he entirely meant it the way it is being put out by the media

He is coming on Vernon's show tomorrow to explain. Can't wait to hear it

Has to be Pearl Harbor. It kept us out of the '46 Sugar Bowl and put us in the **** tank for the next 40 plus years.

Mr. Simmons, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

If he can get his dates straight...he may be on to something

I definitely blame Osama Bin Laden for the downfall of MSU football under JWS. We were rolling along quite nicely until we had to move that SC game after 9/11/01. Was pretty much all downhill after that

Too bad the Grizzlies got swept. The live blog of game 5 with Hench, J-Bug and Ralph David Abernathy III would have been great.

(Better stick to the 80's pop culture references, Bill)

after living in Memphis for 6 years, I don't think Simmons is too far off. It's a stretch but that city has more racial tension than anywhere I have ever been. I don't think it's easy to see unless you've lived there.
