I think this makes sense for Hurley and ASU. ASU has gotten some solid years out of Hurley and he is probably better suited for the East Coast. I know he attracts players so it should only help the region and Big East, if this works out.

At ASU, with the Pac 12 crumbling and a potential Big 12 invite coming in the door, ASU will get a good candidate to replace Bobby. Not extending him, probably more to do with the uncertainty in the financial world with their conference, more than anything else.

Although I still resent NJ players that go to Duke (I probably should let go of this grudge), I do believe that BH is a good coach and having a strong Big East and strong east coast basketball ecosystem is better for all teams in the northeast so I, too, would be happy if BH landed in Providence.

maybe trying to extract more from ASU, or,if smart, trying to be a day early than late (Like Shaka Smart). PC has also been patient with their coaches with low turnover, see Welsh, Cooley.

Can’t fault him, at the time he had about as good a run as any college player

He'd be a good fit and has earned respect as ASU's HC, but is falling a little short of what the fanbase expects.
One sports columnist for the Arizona Republic wrote an article implying it was time to find someone else.
Bobby won't be pushed out, but unless he makes ASU into a top PAC program, the tide is starting to turn against him.
So it might be the right time to head to Providence and back on the East Coast for Bobby in the type of environment he knows best.

edit,
this won't age well now that ASU extended Bobby's contract.
Guess they appreciate him there and he wants to stay in the West

He is no better than Herb Sendek, who was canned for a similar record

I believe that ASU extended his contact yesterday so it looks as though he's staying out here for a few more years.

The Hurleys are NJ BBall royalty - they helped put NJ on the map. Nothing but love and respect for the Hurleys.

I think some people may disagree with their tactics and personalities but most people that are true basketball fans respect what they've done.

Have always felt they and theirs were too good for Rutgers even when Danny was an assistant coach here.

He wasn’t wrong for pushing Rutgers to make a big commitment to basketball.

He was right about that. I think his lack of support in helping build up RU basketball is what fans have an issue with. The Hurleys never went out of their way to send players to RU as influential NJ hs coaches - they could've used their influence in keeping some players in-state @ RU. They instead chose to build pipelines to the blue bloods of college basketball and Seton Hall.

your right, but did RU show them that they would invest enough in the program and try to make it a winner or just look at it as something to support with whatever if left after putting in the money the football program needs .

It could be the commitment they seen the RU Administration making towards basketball that turned the Hurley's off and kept their support of RU MBB at a minimum

We were a basket case for all of those years. If I were a high school coach, can’t say I’d have done anything different. Those guys first loyalty should be to their players, not a college.

No, not true. We didn't start out anything like a basket case.

Lack of support goes way back. And Danny was part of the team that brought us naked Free Throws IIRC

I have to agree with you about the lack of institutional support from RU administration for the RU bball program for over 20 years.

I got to RU 8 years after the last tournament so most of my history is only this century, two decades of mediocre to horrendous bball, with the occasional embarrassment.
