WVSPORTS.COM Bolden will not make trip to Iowa State, how does WVU respond?

WIthout Beetle's shooting, WVU will probably shoot 3-5% less than they normally do. Also, when the shot clock is running down because "insert player here" has been ball faking, running that silly weave, attempting to make a post entry pass and/or generally wasting time, someone else will be forced to chuck it up with 2 or fewer seconds left. With each passing game, I'm honestly finding myself caring less and less about this team and thinking more about how and when it's going to be fixed. For the record, I would consider fixed to be a baseline of .500 in conference play.

Knapper needs to be kept. McCabe is too slow, unathletic, small. Knapper will get better and be a good bench scorer for next 3 years. Next year he will decrease the turnovers and improve. He’s a better athlete than McCabe.

The big question is who cares at this point? Bolden is too wreckless to stay healthy and when he's healthy he's streaky at best. He's not the answer or a player who can get us over the hump from what I've seen. WV will respond by getting into another ugly game, and maybe if we're lucky ISU will be uglier than us.

Deedoubleyou your spot on.

Mtnstream the problem isn’t McCabe IQ. He is too small, slow. Bad combination. This isn’t sucky Wisconsin stiff boy basketball. This is high D1. McCabe is a low D1 PG. He stood out in high school because he was older at turning 19 years old September 3 of senior year. That means he turned 17 at beginning of 10th grade year. 18 at beginning of 11th grade year. That springboarded him in high school. His dad held him back for sports purposes in 7-8th grade making him way older than everybody. I think he peaked out. He is a 20 year old true freshmen. I don’t think he will get more athletic. Strength and conditioning staff and McCabe have their work cut out for them.

Huggs better find a real point guard. McCabe and Knapper are not starters either way but I would keep Knapper over McCabe cause he’s better long term. Knapper is better athlete, quicker, better defender. Knapper will develop, get better next year. He will decrease the turnovers.

Too small? at 5'10, he's too small? I'm just astonished at this. Someone with such a HIGH basketball IQ would think this. The PG position has NO height requirement. They have to be able to control tempo and set up the offense. Stick to making McNuggets.

For you half intelligent posters, here are some facts.

Jordan McCabe rated as 94.77 and 5'10
Frank Mason rated as 91.3 and 5'11

Frank Mason is a PG with the Sacramento Kings.

Because WVU men's basketball has no real history to speak of in recruiting kids from Wisconsin, I fear that his "numbers" were most of why they offered him a scholarship. He had 5 D1 offers (us included) and the list is not very impressive for an ESPN100 recruit. It's possible that the staff is a little too comfortable and got a little lazy in recruiting with Huggs just signing off on the players that the staff had a hand in getting. Making matters worse is that Gordon is a juco (one year) so he doesn't have the time he will need to develop fully. Huggs can still coach with the best of 'em but his recruiting is very hit-or-miss for a guy who has had 3 sweet 16s in the last 4 years.

McCabe gets 31 minutes and only produces 2 points and 3 assists with a bunch of turnovers. He also played his usual bad defense. He is just so slow, small, overmatched at this level. He turned 20 years old back on September 3. He isn’t young. He won’t get much better. I don’t see how he last 4 years here. He is a lower D1 player.

Had 3 TO's, stupid. Knapper has 37 turnovers on the season, McCabe has 20........STUPID! Don't let stats get in the way of your narrative.

McCabe isn’t any better. Knapper needs more minutes. They all turn it over. Knapper looked good against Baylor with 15 points in 2nd half alone. McCabe hasn’t come close to playing that well all year. Both have struggled but at least Knapper has some quickness and athleticism to develop and grow with. McCabe has the slow man syndrome. Can they make him faster. He turned 20 on Sept. 3......

I have nothing against these kids as I do believe that they are all trying very hard but if Huggs doesn't bring in a ton of better talent, this one year blip will snowball into a 3-4 year thing.

We don't land 1 and done guards. It usually takes 2-3 years before they can actually run the team. Carter had a couple of years to develop and was really good as a junior and senior. Our program is built on 3 star talent - 4s and 5s are really rare. There is talent on this team but no leadership and no reliable scoring threat at all from the guard position with Bolden out. Huggins love of defense as his primary offensive weapon isn't helping this bunch develop either. Watching and waiting.

Looking at JC back then as a freshmen he was twitchy athletic, quick. He also was a legit 6-2 and a lock down defender even as a freshmen. He was not great offensive wise his first 2 years but better than what we have now even offensively. These guys are not starting material ever. They will be lucky to become solid backups in time. McCabe is 5-10 and Knapper is 5-11. I think Knapper ends being better than McCabe cause he has more quickness, speed, overall athletic ability to work with. Either way they are not starters. Huggs better find some guys now for next year. Junior college or grad transfer. He may need a patch work job with a good grad transfer. We will be dominant down low next year we just need some guards.
