he is slipping and so is the program. This website was founded on the fact that a group of guys spoke out about Jackie and how he was letting the football program slide, and they were jumped on by the sheep of Genespage and not allowed to speak their concerns. This is where we are now with Stansbury.
Is Stansbury the reason we have expectations? He and Williams are without a doubt. And Stansbury has shown to be more consistent. From 1991-2009, we made the NCAA Tourney 9 times in 19 years- so we see it can be done regularly. And there is no reason that we should accept anything less and slide back to what it was before.
Jackie and Polk let their programs slide to an extremely low level. And alot of that is due to the strength of the SEC in those sports. There is very little room for error in those sports because the SEC is the nation's best year in and year out. That is not the case with basketball and never will be. So the slide will not be as drastic, not as obvious- but a slide nonetheless.
1. We are currently at 2 NCAA's in the last 5 years with one of those a backdoor appearance. In 12 years, Stansbury has yet to advance in the Tourney.
2. Year after year, we have not just transfers, but starters and guys that play alot transferring to places like Notre Dame, GaTech, Louisville, and UPig. These arent bottom of the roster players. We lead the SEC and maybe the nation in this area.
3. In 12 years, we have made no progress at all in advancing our program toward a more national scale, we are content with playing nobody's each season OOC.
4. Next season, we will not make the NCAA's again- making it 2 trips in 6 seasons and even more evidence of a slide.
At what point is enough for a change for the supporters? Does Stansbury have to have a Sherrill and Polk-like crash for the move to be made? Does it not make sense to take the necessary steps to avoid falling to that level? I know Stansbury is a big part of the reason we have expectations in basketball, but 2004 doesnt matter now. Thats over. The program is clearly regressing, and something needs to be done at some point. What, for you, is that point?
Would 2 bowl games in 6 seasons be enough for Mullen to keep everyone happy? I dont think so
Once Cohen gets the program turned around (hopefully he will, he has 2 more seasons in my book), is 2 NCAA's every 6 years enough? Of course not. We havent won the SEC in baseball since 1989. Baseball hasnt won the freaking West since it formed in 1992, I mean come on??? Yet, we have higher expectations in baseball why? Because Polk advanced in the Tourney- something Stansbury has shown he cannot do
I think Stansbury should be coaching for his job in 2011.
