It seemed like Croom was scared of Byrne- even before he lost to La Tech- and rightfully so. It also seemed to me like Croom kind of mailed it in a little bit- or got extra lazy his last year overall after he had his "big year".
I don't know if he expected to just stay around because of 2007 or if he just got burned out or what the deal was.

And I don't think battery operated or motorized vehicles are allowed on the practice field. This should be quite and experience for Sylvester.
that is better served as a follower rather than be the guy in charge. He will also be somewhere that he really wants to be- I questioned whether he even really wanted to be at MSU the entire time he was here.
Al Borges and Ellis Johnson the coordinators to start with, and hired a bunch of guys that could recruit their tails off like Melvin to be the position coaches and hired a decent o-line coach and a great strength and conditioning coach, his tenure could have been different.
Of course, that's a lot of "ifs".

He did not focus enough on the Egg Bowl. Not that I think that our HC should spend all of his time and energy on it, but if you are going to coach in college, task number one is to figure out who your rival is and beat them. He genuinely wanted to beat Bama more than Ole Miss, and spent way more time and energy preparing for them, and that is stupid if you're the HC at MSU.
I agree we could not have gotten him in 04 for sure that is when he got to Auburn. In 08 or 09 we could have gotten him because that was the year Tubbs hire Franklin. (3-2) The problem with Croom was where he drew the line in the sand and said that he would fire himself before he fired an assistant.

Hiring Tony Franklin would have been kind of ironic because he was the OC on the other side of the field in the 3-2 game.
I had heard that Borges had been approached by Croom, but that he turned it down. I kind of figured that Borges knew that Croom wouldn't be around a whole lot longer, that or he was trying to get more money. Also, if Croom had a lot of input into the offense, he may have been worried about Croom meddling.
I think Byrne wanted Croom gone anyway- I don't think he was solely going to fire him because he wanted him to change the scheme. I think Byrne wanted someone more like, well Dan Mullen. I say that because Byrne wanted someone who would really promote the program, really unite the fans, and win. That's kind of hard to do when your head coach is talking about how great Alabama is and how he doesn't care what the fans think.
am I the only one who feels like a recharged Croom could be trouble over there? I mean as a teacher and motivator in a position coach role where he is comfortable? Relieved of the worries of overall management? At the school he loves? I think that might be a little trouble for the rest of us. Especially with Saban motivating him. I think the "little trouble" that I am speaking of will translate to tipping the scales on a few stud recruits every year that otherwise AU, MSU, LSU, OM, etc might be in a fight with them for.

Somehow, Crxxms managed to get back onto the MState campus last fall and has been in charge of recruiting. I bet he's operating out of the back of the LT Center for Mediocrity. I think I remember seeing a little golf cart garage door on the back of that monstrosity.
as your's.........would he/could he work the pace saban seems to demand. maybe he would but he's doesn't give one the impression of a high energy driven kind of coach. heck working a saban schedule, he'd never be able to keep his weight up.
I agree with you boys. However, I don't think he would have a lot of energy to recruit very hard.
