Here is Lincoln Riley admitting a coaching mistake, for referenceLebby should publicly apologize. He won't because he thinks he did the right thing. Also, it's the Mississippi State way to remain silent so things like this fester into an abscess.

So if Lebby isn’t calling the plays and tells the offensive coordinator to get more yards that makes it different. Got it.I don’t think you can put the argument to bed when sнit like Saturday continues to happen.
No, if he is not in the mindset of needing to call plays, maybe he can think about the overall situation, do proper clock management, and not make bonehead moves like this one.So if Lebby isn’t calling the plays and tells the offensive coordinator to get more yards that makes it different. Got it.
See how dumb that argument is.
This gives me flashbacks to Croom — stubborn to a fault. If he’d just said, “I own it, this one’s on me, and we’re moving on to Texas,” I’d feel a lot better about him.Jeff Lebby made a dumb coaching decision and said he would make that same dumb decision again. That tells us everything we need to know about what to expect in the future.
I know it’s getting magnified because it involves State but this crap goes on in almost every game. Coaches make bad decisions. It happensNo, if he is not in the mindset of needing to call plays, maybe he can think about the overall situation, do proper clock management, and not make bonehead moves like this one.
But, if you have a decent QB...I said this elsewhere, but no, most college coaches are not putting the ball in the air there, especially ones that have OLs that struggle protecting the QB and a QB that has a propensity to get rattled. You run the ball and then clock it 100 out of 100 times and kick the FG.
I get your point. I do think, especially during a game, there is need of having an OC. Saban had them, Urban Meyer had them. I wished I knew if there was a Conference champ in the last 30 years that didn't have one. There are too many decisions in too short a timeframe especially at the end of a tight game not to have one calling plays.I know it’s getting magnified because it involves State but this crap goes on in almost every game. Coaches make bad decisions. It happens
I’m in the camp that you run it, clock it, and kick. He saw it another way.![]()
It’s not a dumb argument. By your logic, no head coach needs an OC or a DC.So if Lebby isn’t calling the plays and tells the offensive coordinator to get more yards that makes it different. Got it.

I like this post from Brandon F Walker as well....
He’s not right. It was the most idiotic play call I have possibly ever seen. Throwing the ball in the middle of the field with an insanely inconsistent quarterback that lacks mobility when you are in field goal range is dumbass central. What if it gets tipped and intercepted by one of the other 7 defenders in the area? What if we get a holding call and have to kick a 58 yard field goal? What if we get sacked? All of those risks to try and gain 5 yards when you’re already within range and were also running it down their throat all game. It’s not like we couldn’t run the football on them. It was dumb as 17 and it’s insane that someone like Brandon Walker would be stupid enough to defend it.He’s right. I don’t even find it controversial we were throwing the ball in that situation. I think most college coaches are putting the ball in the air there in today’s game.
As a fan base we’re acting like we’re Lovie Smith and the Bears. Our kicker missed a FG from that exact distance earlier in the game, and against A&M.
And we had been killing them through the air. We had 150 yards passing in the 4Q alone. They had freshman chasing open WRs on that play too. We just didn’t execute.
$4 million a year growing painsVery dumb coaching decision that cost us the win. It happens. Move on. Growing pains.
I'm not with Bwalker on this one.
Missing three wide open receivers for touchdowns, a fumble in the red zone, and a horrible 4th down call may have had slightly more to do with it than one bad passing decision. We left a minimum of 24 points on the field in that game. Halftime should have been 24-3 and Florida would have rolls over and died.Very dumb coaching decision that cost us the win. It happens. Move on. Growing pains.
This man gets it! He doesn't want to be a a HC he wants to continue to be a OC with HC pay! Preach GloryDawg! All I want is a HEAD COACH, someone who manages a game makes the decision to go for it or not on 4th down, when to go for 2 when, how allows someone to run a defense or offense he approves of. A coach who recruits and retains too talent. This is not too much to ask for! Screw this up and coming coordinator crap we keep doing! If you hire a HC ho has proven he can call plays and win at the top level then I'm fine with it, otherwise move the 17 on!Seems like he makes a lot of stupid play calls. A head coach probably has 20 things to worry with going on at any time during a game. An OC only has one thing to worry about. I am sorry he has to decide does he want to be a HC or a OC. At this time of his career trying to learn the ropes of a HC can't do both.
Big difference- Clark Lea hired Tim Beck last year. This is Tim Beck’s 2nd year. Clark Lea realized in order to be competitive at Vanderbilt they had to be different, and that’s why he hired Tim Beck. Other words they changed directions totally but still with the same head coach. Jeff Lebby calls his offense, there is no changing directions. One thing to keep in mind... Clark Lea is in his FIFTH year at Vanderbilt. Here are the records from his first years:
2021: 2-10 (0-8)
2022: 5-7 (2-6)
2023: 2-10 (0-8)
2024: 7-6 (3-5)
2025: 6-1 (2-1) << in progress
We have to remember that as frustrating as it was to lose to UF (and that we couldn't finish UT), we are much better than prior years. If Lebby is still giving games away next year, buy me a ticket on the train to new coach town. But not yet.
I will be interested to see how Vandy does after Pavia leaves (if he leaves?). They have built a strong, hard nosed team that is tough to play against. But Vandy fans (I'm a Vandy grad alum)... DO. NOT. CARE. about sports. That may be changing, but I would not be surprised to see a regression after Pavia is done. When I was in Grad School, James Franklin won 9 games in back-to-back years. Then they went through another decade of mediocrity and no fan interest
Sounds kind of familiar to another team we all like, no? Need I remind people about the 2016 S. Alabama "shorts" game after Dak graduated?? and the ~7 years of futility we've been riding lately.
Good things are coming... I was happy we could beat ASU. I was sad we couldn't finish against UT. I'm frustrated that we didn't win Saturday against UF. I'm beyond angry that we gave the game away against UF.
But we should not fire Lebby this year.
Also Clark Lea is coaching at his alma mater, I don't get the impression that he is looking elsewhere. He has passion for Vandy, I still stand by that we should follow a similar path at State. Surely there is a alum with coaching experience who wants to be the one to raise his alma mater from the ashes to relevance?Big difference- Clark Lea hired Tim Beck last year. You’re on to something- that is maybe the direction we need to go- an alum with coaching experience and who wants to do what’s right, whatever it takes, no matter how it looks, for his school to hav a chance to be successful. He go might that be?Also Clark Lea is coaching at his alma mater, I don't get the impression that he is looking elsewhere. Joe Judge! Give him another chance. He's been learning from Lane for the last couple of years! You’re on to something- that is maybe the direction we need to go- an alum with coaching experience and who wants to do what’s right, whatever it takes, no matter how it looks, for his school to hav a chance to be successful. I have said for years that we need Boobie on staff. Maybe he could be the “Executive director of player enthusiasm”! Haha. Nobody brings good vibes like Boobie Dixon.
I’m coming around to saying why the hell not. He could be our Clark Lea as Bulldog78 says. But I just don’t know that much about him. But as he says Lea’s passion is for Vandy, and after year 3 there he realized and made a huge change in his offensive approach there. To me thst hige change in approach shows his willingness to try to do what’s best for Vanderbilt. And that’s what we need, Someone who understands who we are at State and what we’re up against.Joe Judge! Give him another chance. He's been learning from Lane for the last couple of years!
(**, just in case anyone didnt know)
Wait. You mean officials are not the only ones who make bad calls in games?**I know it’s getting magnified because it involves State but this crap goes on in almost every game. Coaches make bad decisions. It happens

Exactly who I was thinking. He was offered the job before, but took the Giants job. Can't blame a guy for taking a shot at the NFL. Wasn't exactly in the best situation there especially with Gettleman and the Saquan injury and Daniel Jones at QB ( who now is helping me in fantasy on another team). I mean let's see what other coach in history left college, didn't do well as an NFL coach and then came back to college and made the most impressive football dynasty in history? None other than Lord Saban? Oh and Judge coaches under him as well as a grad assistant. So we have a guy who loves MSU, has learned under Saban, Kiffin and Bellichek. Last time I mentioned him everyone said no college experience, seems that is no longer an issue he also checks way more boxes than our current OC/HC form and experience, passion for the school and mentored under.I’m coming around to saying why the hell not. It was good enough for a bowl every year, but people like you weren’t happy with just a bowl game every year and now you’ve got this ….. left behind.
You think it won't work based on a play that a veteran QB should never turn the ball over on but he did.Saying you can’t get rid of an employee that you know isn’t going to work just doesn’t make any sense.
Beating a ranked good ASU team vs losing to Tulsa is way more than doubling. You gotta be a Rebel fan.We play in a league and 0 SEC wins from year 1 to year 2 is not doubling
