Pike showed him more loyalty then he would his own children. Pike stayed with him as he melted down and cost us an NCAA bid. Below average player with multiple on court incidents. Seemed to be positive off the court. Absolutely predictable, whiney, brat look at me move to finish his whole offseason about himself. Good luck!

We had a culture that was in equilibrium.
And working.
Things are no longer in balance.
This is a moment of danger for the program. Our NIL resources are meaningful but limited.

And those who are here want to be retained as they read about Ace and Dylan.

Clearly they feel let down.

I believe they fell short in their communications and Pike fell short re his preparation for his new direction and management of his roster.
Not buying NIL that much. I mean he gave it all away last year. I think it was the fans and he felt slighted by what he thought his role would be.

I am owed about 5 apologies from those here that ripped into me back in March when I said I had a hunch that Paul would transfer

You know who you are, if I don’t see acknowledgments I know you’re fugazzis
That’d be me. I definitely didn’t see this coming at all. We’d better get some help in the portal or next season will see some major regression.

I don't knock him, I knock the new process in place, with NIL's, and the post grad transfer to the highest bidder
If nothing changes, college basketball becomes too much of a business for my liking

Maybe we will get used to this, but for now it is very distasteful
Grad transfers have been a thing for a while. The first one I heard of happened in 2012 but the rule probably existed long before that.

I don’t agree with crucifying Paul Mulcahy here. I think this says a lot more about the new system than anything else.
I’m not happy with him, but it’s still not quite as bad as with Cam because Paul was undecided from the start. There’s a difference between accepting graduate school admission and then rescinding.

Its amazing payers enter the portal now when they have a new NIL deal all negotiated and finished up. I thought it was supposed to be enter the portal and then see who is interested in you. NCAA is a complete disaster.

More evidence that we are basically a feeder program for higher profile programs.
Common with that. Lol

Only reason Paul would start next year for us is because Pike is loyal af. Under any other circumstance with Noah and Derek, he would be coming off the bench. If we are a higher program feeder …. Those programs will starve.

Paul gave us 4 years.

Cam was a 1 year rental

Sorry, Pauls history/ dedication to the program is going to garner him a little more respect compared to Cam.

I am shocked by this. I am not a Paul "fanboy" - I 100% agree with the problems with his game. I too wanted to see his role reduced/ changed this year.

but maybe that's what makes this transfer different from Cam. Cam was set up to have a really big role (maybe even bigger with slashing PGs able to dish out to him and another shooter in Gavin to take pressure away from him) but perhaps Paul was told that his role was going to CHANGE and/or be REDUCED. if so that would make his decision very different from Cam (which was seemingly all about $$$$$).

if it was role/ playing time issue then Paul's transfer kinda smells like Mathis' transfer (where there seemed to be a mutually-agreed upon situation where his time here was kinda done). and for that reason Mathis didnt get a huge backlash.

either way - I truly hate the current state of college basketball right now. luckily I am becoming numb to this whole mess. my enjoyment of college basketball decreases daily.
I respect Cam more.

it’s worse than Cam. Cam was already a hired gun. Also, we didn’t need Paul…until Cam left. Now, a month after Cam announced, he pulls this crap. Much much worse.

Agree, so maybe now people lay off Cam.

No - I’m not happy with either leaving, but in Paul’s case it’s closer to what JY and Mathis did in leaving.

Cam deliberately misled Rutgers. Probably felt if he had “given proper notice” it would’ve made his on campus April workouts awkward and didn’t want that distraction. That, and only that, is what wasn’t cool. If he had been undecided all along nobody would be calling him out.

My sentiment exactly. I graduated in 1973 and am prouder today than that day to be an alumnus of Rutgers. For the last 60 years my daIly schedule has largely been built around RU sporting events. The current state of football and basketball sucks. Name, Image and Likeness was never intended to be free agency for college sports. It hurts not to care anymore.

maybe.

but, honestly, we on this board are irrelevant.

its all about what the coaches knew. were either of them upfront with the coaches? were the coaches blindsided like us fans? did either mislead the coaches of their intentions?

e.g., if Paul had been upfront with Pike all along ("hey coach dont count on me coming back" but only publicly announced just now and maybe that prompted Pike to pick up Fernandes as insurance? then IMHO criticism is not really deserved.

on other hand if he's been telling Pike the opposite (or nothing) all along then, yes, youd be 100% right... this would be worse than Cam (certainly as it relates to timing)

but we know none of this so really our opinions on here (including mine) are meaningless and ignorant

He was undecided openly all along and I assume not legally eligible for the portal until after graduation anyway. We don’t know what was said behind closed doors to Pike after Noah was brought in to play PG.
unfortunately now we have a very small PG, a small SG who is not really a shooter, and no bench at the guard position. This has a long season written all over it right now.

in the end maybe we end up losing Cam and Paul, but the second we lost Baye Njongo to NIL, the Mag rumors started to swirl
We locked him up
And then we lost Cam and Paul.
Im wondering if teams saw what happened in how we lost Baye and thought our grad transfers would be easy targets
These guys waited until May/June to transfer. I don’t think that was part of the plan.

Yes, I recognize that their value went up after the portal closed but this is probably something to keep an eye on. You’re gonna see more of it
