I thought from the moment I learned who he was that he would quickly get a HC gig somewhere. Hope we can keep him, but I'd wish him luck wherever he goes outside the SEC.

Not only a candidate but sounds like a strong candidate.

Clemson OC Chad Morris. LSU DC John Chavis, Ball State coach Pete Lembo and former Minnesota coach Tim Brewster are the early names at NC State. Brewster has a long history in the state. He worked at UNC for Mack Brown and still owns a home in Chapel Hill. Athletic Director Debbie has said that Vanderbilt coach and long time personal friend James Franklin is not a candidate for the NC State job.

That would be bizarre to fire someone with a consistent track record like O'Brien only to hire a coach with with a losing record over only a few years. Kind of like firing a poor man's Tuberville to hire a Chizik. That being said, I hope sticks around.

Well, it was pretty bizzarre for them to fire O'Brien in the first place. Interesting that Chavis is a candidate. He's been an outstanding DC for 18 years but this is the first time I think I've seen his name even mentioned for a head coaching job. I think he'd be an Ellis Johnson hire. Not that bad of course, but a clear downgrade from who they had. I think the only name on that list that even possibly might be better than O'Brien is Pete Lembo. And that would be a big gamble to fire O'Brien to hire Lembo, but Lembo has the most upside potential of anyone on the list.

I don't know anything about Brewster's staff or tenure at Minnesota but it wasn't that bad was it? From what I can tell he's a great one-on-one coach and every single person and recruit seems to like him.

Not so bizzarre. He is getting pretty old and shows no emotion. He blew several games for NC State this year with wierd play calls-one of which was the UNC game when he tried to run the clock out from his 30 yard line to play for overtime, didn't succeed and had to punt. The UNC guy runs it back for the TD and wins the game.
