Does that mean there is trouble in Starkville?

Isn't that how it works?

We can't keep a good assistant for ****. We will never be good until we do this.

We need more people in the Bulldog Club donating so we can get assistant salaries higher....we lag severely there...we still dont have 10K members in the Bulldog Club- thats pathetic

Stricklin been Crooming lately. First the Rick Ray hire, now this. Ray may prove to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but even you have to admit the hire was less than spectacular.

He was just in Jackson talking to the 120 club I believe last Tuesday. I hope this is not true, but if FSU is throwing a good deal more money at him, what are we to do or what is he to do? Great recruiter and coach. I'd hate for him to leave!

All kinds of scenarios can be imagined. It still comes down to $$$$...period...end of story...no further discussion necessary.

I agree, but I thought you weren't a member. Did that change?

So has it been confirmed that he's been hired away, or just that he is talking to FSU?

You may be right, but....

one of the jobs of an Athletic Director is to raise money. He needs to be addressing the problem, not using it as an excuse.

My source told me FSU wrote him 1,983 hand-written letters in two weeks and paid him 24K just to visit.

Yea that's true but its a tough row to hoe when you are basically in what is near if not the poorest state in the nation and we have no doctors or lawyers in our alumni base.

Link me to him "using it as an excuse"? He's repeatedly and consistently held that we will not lose coaches over money. So, I guess we'll see.

One of the jobs is to raise money? Seriously? He's raising money at a pace that is not comparable to any other time in our history. $70mil to the BDC in private donations the past two years. That's double what we'd raised in any prior year -- and SIX times what we were raising in the LT/Croom era.

Of the things that Stricklin can be legitimately criticized for, raising money is not one of them.

I don't think it has anything to do exclusively with doctors and lawyers. State has some very wealthy alumni but they are more likely to donate money for a new chemical engineering building than for the football program. Football at State is simply not that important to as many alumni as it is at OM.

According to Paul, Brewster will either get the same money or less if he goes to FSU.

Yes, we do have some wealthy alumni in the business and engineering world but pretty much every college has a business school and a lot with engineering schools. Hard to have guys making megabucks though in the medical and legal profession when you don't offer those degrees. And on top of that more of those folks percentage wise stick around MS. There are doctor and lawyer services needed everywhere. There are only a few places in MS where you can make it big in business industry or engineering. And its the folks that stay closer to the university after graduation that tend to care more and be involved more in the university's athletics.

Then I don't understand why he would go unless there is some sort of personal relationship there pulling him. FSU is FSU so the school is more notable but its still a step down in conference when it comes to football.

Apparently he's close with some of the other coaches on staff there, and he thinks he can get more exposure at FSU landing top guys. Either way, Brewster is getting a pretty big pay raise and increased responsibility out of this last round of contract negotiations. If he leaves, it's not soley because of $.

Fact- it's easier to recruit to Fla State than to Miss State. That said, I dont see him leaving for less money unless he just feels like its that much easier to be successful there- and it may very well be. I could see him going if it's about the same

Yes, that's why I said take it for what it's worth

But I've also found Wikipedia to be more reliable to your average Google search return. Anyone can also post blog entries full of all kinds of foolishness.
