I know Buford is loaded and one poll has Buford ranked 11 in the nation and another poll I think around 3. This probably one of the games where you wish the 2004 Independence team could be here playing them. Not sure what to think about this game. Any thoughts.

I do not think it will be as bad as some may think as we all see the Buford rankings. I do believe when you are playing a loaded and talented squad the key on offense is to sustain drives which usually requires a good mix of the run and pass or be able to grind it out. Defensively, do not give up the big play and make some third downs stops. Field position is always critical and having a very strong kicking/punting game can be a difference maker.

Good lukc to MC. Rep NC well.

I don’t think we need the greatest High School Football team in NC history to compete with Buford. 2013 Mallard Creek team or 2012 Butler team would do just fine.

i can see Buford pulling away late but I don’t think MC gets humiliated

I think MC will make this a game. I think ppl underestimate the power of being an underdog, nothing to lose in games like this. Especially when you have talent on your team. Win or lose this is a game that will show MC what a complete team looks like and I think MC will learn ALOT for this game that may well benefit them against Hough, Chambers and in the playoffs

Good Grief My Baby Jesus. There must have been a lot of Ugly in this game. What were the rushing and passing numbers. Buford may receive tons of offers from Nick Saban and/or Kirby Smart. Total Domination. They turned the lights on and shut them off. Great game!

A few seasons ago Buford loaded up on senior transfers. Some came last half of their junior school year. As soon as football was over I think nearly all of them went back to their prior school. They have got a lot of flack in GA but their own school district OF ABOUT 5,000 students in a small city limits. Tip top facilities with big money support.

Beat the number 1 team in Alabama 38-7 last week, at their House. 1st home game for Buford. Guys are breathing with no injuries. Keep it moving.

Well, we’ve been waiting on this.
The perfect teaching moment.

We will stretch a little, but not really.
The point will be made.
The point we have made for decades.

Chambers played “up” this week. They lost.
Hough played “up” last week. They lost.
Mallard Creek played “up” this week. Lost.
Weddington played “up” this week. Lost.
Dudley played “up” this week. They lost.
Shelby played “up” this week. They lost.
Reidsville played “up” this week. They lost.

The top teams in the State, across classifications, played “up” this week (or last), and they all lost.
But every losing coach will tell you, it will make them better….for the season.
The loss will expose the weaknesses, with time to correct or adjust to them.

“So what?”, you ask. Most understand that, correct?
No, they don’t.
We have had the biggest arguments and most aggressive abuse trying to make this point, primarily to the 4A crowd, but also to 3A and 2A folks as well. Play “up”, it will make you better. “But 4A can’t play “up” “, they said.
They just did. And lost.
Powerful Indy, at their finest, played “up” in Ohio. And lost.

Some thought, play it safe, schedule cupcakes for non conference, go undefeated, and you will get the highest seeds, and now, perhaps a bye.
Some still think that way.
It is past time for strength of schedule to be considered in year end seeding.
We will not hold our breath.
But finally, many are starting to see the great value there is in scheduling non conference play against a team that may be better than you.

Want more proof?

There is a high school football program in NC that has been playing “up” forever.
Many years, 40% of their schedule has been against teams from higher classes. Some years, it was over 50%. Many years, including this year,
scheduled teams 2 classes “up”.
That program has won more games and more State Titles in the last 60 years than any other.
They have won 92% of games within their class.
The closest other program of any class is at 80%.
But in only 3 of those seasons were they undefeated.

Now you know why.
