I thought it was just me.I have seen ten teams play this season and none have been what I would consider an elite team, not close. That includes Dutch Fork, Gaffney, SPe, MC, and Chambers.

Go Bears2007 Indy was not an impressive team. Rank the Knotts era teams at Indy (2000-2009) and 2007 is 9th in front of 2009. Definitely not their finest.
It will make all of the teams better. I agree that coach's will see weaknesses to work on when you play top notch competition that get camouflaged playing weak sisters. There have been a lot of teams that have historically loaded up with cupcakes in the front half of the season to a only collapse in the playoffs the first time they see adversity. Pretty sure you are talking about Shelby. They play up every year, win state championships in their class as a habit and have won a state championship with 4 losses "playing up" before. Good teams will learn. Good teams get better.Well, weāve been waiting on this.
The perfect teaching moment.
We will stretch a little, but not really.
The point will be made.
The point we have made for decades.
Chambers played āupā this week. They lost.
Hough played āupā last week. They lost.
Mallard Creek played āupā this week. Lost.
Weddington played āupā this week. Lost.
Dudley played āupā this week. They lost.
Shelby played āupā this week. They lost.
Reidsville played āupā this week. They lost.
The top teams in the State, across classifications, played āupā this week (or last), and they all lost.
But every losing coach will tell you, it will make them betterā¦.for the season.
The loss will expose the weaknesses, with time to correct or adjust to them.
āSo what?ā, you ask. Most understand that, correct?
No, they donāt.
We have had the biggest arguments and most aggressive abuse trying to make this point, primarily to the 4A crowd, but also to 3A and 2A folks as well. Play āupā, it will make you better. āBut 4A canāt play āupā ā, they said.
They just did. And lost.
Powerful Indy, at their finest, played āupā in Ohio. And lost.
Some thought, play it safe, schedule cupcakes for non conference, go undefeated, and you will get the highest seeds, and now, perhaps a bye.
Some still think that way.
It is past time for strength of schedule to be considered in year end seeding.
We will not hold our breath.
But finally, many are starting to see the great value there is in scheduling non conference play against a team that may be better than you.
Want more proof?
There is a high school football program in NC that has been playing āupā forever.
Many years, 40% of their schedule has been against teams from higher classes. Some years, it was over 50%. Many years, including this year,
scheduled teams 2 classes āupā.
That program has won more games and more State Titles in the last 60 years than any other.
They have won 92% of games within their class.
The closest other program of any class is at 80%.
But in only 3 of those seasons were they undefeated.
Now you know why.
Butler can get better but they have talent. Really impressed with QB Lawrence. Hales is really letting him throw it around. I think he is better than Houghās QB in my opinion.Btango check Butler out. Their defense is beyond impressive. EF is great too.

If youād played Buford they wouldāve been up by 49 at the end of 1. Spare me this stuff.No.
But we havenāt lost by 49 points either.
Nor did we when we played a Top 5 national team.

Indyās 109 game winning streak was ended in 2007 playing āupā out of state. āFinestā was a reference to that streak, which still stands. Not that season.
But you know that.
We have no way of knowing whether āthe streakā would have ever existed had Indy played āupā a few games each season consistently over those 7 years. Try 40% of the time.
We seriously doubt it.
How many times did they play āupā during the streak, btango? Of course you have that info.
Once? Twice? Three times?
99% of their wins were against same classification 4A NC high schools.
Correct, btango?
Indyās streak was fantastic. There is no attempt here to diminish that. Only put it in perspective.
And they did not need to play āupā to improve and dominate 4A in NC. Knotts was that good as a coach and in assembling players.
And history has confirmed that.
There may never be another individual coach in NC as successful as Knotts.
But there is a program that is. Even better.
True or false. As of this morning Shelby is tied for the worst record in HS football? No.

Hey, thatās a good one.Remember when Brenner the female kicker for High Point Central booted the winning field goal late in the 1995 3A semifinals to oust the Golden Lions.
