It'll be interesting to see how Burns plays this one. Yes it's their biggest rival & they'll obviously want to win it, but they have a must-win the next week. Does Burns treat it like the rival game it is or play it thinking about RS Central?

Actually I guess you could use the same argument for Crest as well with them having KM the next week. But Crest will be in the playoffs even with a loss against KM. Burns will be out with a loss against RS

I think burns has to treat it like a playoff game. A win against a string crest team with a loss to RS could leave a slim chance to get in as the lone wild card. This isn’t obviously what we hope for but you play to win every game. It don’t matter if it’s against Vance or a county rival or out of state power house. Play every game to win it or don’t play at all.

As I said in the 2A board, that all depends on Chase/RS. There could be a 3 way tie if Chase beats RS and RS beats Burns.

After watching Crest today I think you have to give the edge to Burns. A lot of negatives in today’s game. Crest O Line struggled against an inferior opponent. Center snaps continue to be a problem.
Kicker is struggling missing 2 more XP’s today.
Although they pitched a shutout, the defense missed a bunch of tackles and had some stupid penalties.
Prior to today’s game I would have had Crest favored by 2 scores. They got a lot to clean up.

I think some of that can probably be attributed to playing a noon game on a Saturday honestly.

It just all depends on what gets off the bus from Lawndale. I honestly feel this team has a bunch of potential if the offense is clicking. Buren defense is probably the best I have seen since 2011-2014 and very young at that. Only 4 seniors start total and mostly sophomores and freshman. The offense has to find its rhythm early though or they will press to find it and I think it will lead to mistakes. We don’t get anything going it’ll lead to turnovers and bad decisions offensively. Defensively if Burns can keep ruff contained I think we have a shot. But if not it’ll be a long night for the defense

I don’t know the extent. But I do know Mauney can spin the rock. If he would happen to star you’ll see an all freshman backfield Thursday. Knowing Cam and the leader he is, he’ll be suited up and playing Thursday night unless he can’t walk.

The defense can keep us in it but the offense must execute. We cannot make mistakes and expect to beat Crest. They have a good defense and the offense may have been more dangerous with Ruff running the rock but Ruff at QB still allows him to be a threat. It’s a meaningless game as far as playoffs but it’s a county game that the kids want to win. It’s crazy how young Burns really is. Could be the youngest we’ve ever had.

Talked to a player today at Ace Hardware who said cam will play.

Ok let me elaborate a little bit in my prediction- Burns offense will make or break this game. I am pretty confident that the burns defense can keep them in any ball game. The biggest question mark is which offense is going to show up. We have big play capability and usually have a few a game. Which running back is going to be getting the majority of the touches? Hopefully Jeremiah will be. Will we be able to sustain a few drives and keep the defense fresh. Sometimes staying in a game with home run plays isn’t a good thing for the defense. It’s kind of like trading licks with the warriors a few years ago. They get 3 and the opponent usually gets two. We score quick and then other teams put together long drives and defense is tired they can’t stop them. So that’s why I say it’ll either be close or it’ll be a big win for crest. Also in the back of Crest mind is the loss from last year.

Crest Defense has to play there best game of the season to win. Crest has to keep the penalties down and make PAT’s. I think Crest might just be the underdog in this game.. I snatched my ticket today so we shall see😎

This game is tricky to predict. This could be the best defense either team has faced this year. Shelby was tough but I’m not sure which is better until after Thursday. It could be another classic. Both Cleveland County games have been so close this year that it came down to special teams. Crazy year.

Since your a born and bred Charger that married into the Burns community I guess that makes you the biggest fence rider Lawn12Dog. Even though your kids went to Burns, we know in your heart that whoever wins the game will put a smile on your face. 😃
I have close ties to 3 of the county schools but not the one without a ship near Gaston County...... :)

Rulz do you remember back in the mid 80s when Crest had to go 4a? I still have a tee shirt at moms that says "crest high chargers 4a all the way." I wish i could say it still fits but that was 100 pounds ago. Haha
They should’ve been in the Northwestern 4A beginning in 1985 instead of being sent to Charlotte. Or at least had them and East Gaston in the same league as Ashbrook and Huss so they wouldn’t have had to go to Charlotte but one or two times a season. Everything changed for the better for them for good when they got out of the Tri-County in 1993.

I absolutely mean no offense toward Crest or their fans, but their opponents' combined records (based on Maxpreps) is 6-16.
My guess is that the challenging part of their schedule -- and their talent -- will at least be challenged?
Sounds as if Burns has been more "battle tested" so far...

Yes it was a very brutal learning curve for sure. Coach Mike Stewart got the program to the next level.

I have the same shirt bro. It might as well be a napkin now. LMBO!. If my son played for the Taliban, I'd wrap a towel around my head and be true blue.

Now, I want to be clear, if he decided Shelby was where he was going, I'd hope the orphanage could get him to practice and school.
