I say Buy. Even though Ben won Big East POY as a senior, I think Hood has then potential to do the same as a sophomoreat whatever school he ends up at.

Although I liked Ben as a player better than Randy/Barry, at least when Ben left we had a more than competent person to play the 2 for the next two years. Heck, we even had Phil who could have played the 2. With Hood, not only do we not have anyone for that spot, he was also going to be our go-to guy for the next three years.

I'm reading disturbing chatter about pressure being applied to give him an unconditional release.

So let's see what happens first.

Buy because of the timing during a transition so it puts the new coach behind the 8-ball even more than he already was. And no way we should give him an unconditional release in my opinion. Anywhere out of conference fine.

I'd hate to see him once or twice every year wearing Bama or Kentucky's jersey.

If we grant Hood an unconditional release and he ends up at an SEC school then I will personally buy the pitchforks and torches to form the lynch mob for Strickland. That would be way the other side of stupid.

At least when Hansbrough left we had some players on the roster (Varnado, Dee, Barry, Kodi, Phil). Hood would have been the best returning player. Our team was already going to be ******, but now I can't even imagine how bad we'll be.<div>

Hansbrough's leaving sucked, but I still felt like we had a core of good players at the time to get us where we wanted to go. Hood's departure now has me convinced that it will be 3 years before we're even competitive again, and it will probably be 4 before we start seriously talking about the postseason.

The release will determine whether or not he is eligible for an athletic scholarship during that sit-out year.
The release can be school specific to minimize the chance he will stay in-conference by denying that first year of aid.
There are a few exemptions, but Hood doesn't seem to meet any of them.

I can't find anything in the NCAA or SEC rules that allow a school to deny a transfer other than the one year scholarship restriction.

Ole Miss did not give Murphy Holloway a release, so he sat out one year of play, but attended South Carolina without a scholarship.
(His return to Ole Miss met a "return to original school" exemption.)

I found some reporting to the contrary, but the rules don't seem to back that up.

I thinkrelease denialhurts recruting more than it helps with competition, and if Hood is a sure fire pro, then a year of tuition loansshouldn't be a problem for him.

Or I could be wrong.I riskthe normalkneejerk insults in a search for answers.

It's more painful than Hans leaving because of who we happen to have returning compared to when Hans bolted.

You seriously think Hood could be the BigEast POY 2 seasons from now? Come the hell on.
Hood has talent. He has potential. But he didn't show near enough demand as a player to be the POY in even the Sun Belt 2 seasons from now.

Maybe as a Junior or Senior, he could be the BigEast POY.

And Hansbrough looked like the future Big East POY while at State? Hell we had people that thought he was only on the team at the time because his brother was famous.
