I'm buying in bulk. Everytime he steps on the field I just cringe. I don't know if it was the knee injury from a couple years ago or what, but he just isn't impressive at all.

I don't know if it was the injury or just over-hyped out of HS but he is not an SEC running back.

I just didn't see it. SEC runningbacks should dominate lower level high school competition. He never did that in high school. His speed, quickness, etc. as measured at the combines never could match those of other running backs at the same camp who never played D-I ball (example Nathan Jew of Jackson Academy put up better combine numbers). I was hoping he was just a later bloomer. I'm not seeing it.

Nickoe Whitley on the other hand looks real good. Big upgrade over Zach Smith. Nice to have this guy for 3 more years.

and if you've never had one, you just don't realize how fickle those can be. The little time he got to play before the knee injury, he was incredible. I just don't see how you can say someone is a bust after they've had an injury like he had.

That was more hope than anything. It would take a miracle for him to get to 400 yards rushing on the year.

Buy. Big. Time. Bust.

He looked like Jerious in the LSU game in which he got hurt. He was an NFL talent before the injury. Not so much now....but like I said - you can't call someone a bust who's had an injury like he had. I will say that others have come back from that kind of an injury better than he has, but the knee is just one of those places that you can never tell how you'll recover, especially in a sport like football.

2008:
Played in four games during his redshirt freshman season until having that campaign curtailed by a knee injury . . . After not seeing action in the season opener, played in four straight games (Weeks 2-5) . . . Rushed 18 times for 61 yards, a 3.4-yard per carry average, and one touchdown . . . Also had four pass receptions for 53 yards, a 13.2-yard average . . . Saw his first action from the line of scrimmage in Mississippi State’s home-opening win over Southeastern Louisiana . . . Rushed five times for 7 yards and had a 19-yard pass reception against the Lions . . . Saw the most extensive work of his redshirt freshman season at Georgia Tech in Week 4 . . . Rushed a career-best nine times for 36 yards and a touchdown, and caught three passes for 34 yards . . . The score was the first of is collegiate career . . . Rushed four times for 18 yards at LSU in Week 5, but suffered a season-ending knee injury shortly before halftime . . . Led all rushers during two fall scrimmages by gaining 86 yards on 27 attempts.

I wouldn't call 7 yards on 5 carries against Southeastern Louisiana Norwood esque. Even before the knee injury he didn't have the speed Norwood did.

None of our RBs got much of a chance last night. Elliot didn't look bad against Memphis.

Still think I like Ballard and Perk better than Elliot.

We're 2 games in to having Elliott as the starter. Give him time. I'm not saying he won't be labeled as one, but it's too early to tell.

...because last year he was coming off major knee surgery, and got better as the season progressed in limited touches. And this year he played well against Memphis, so this was the one game he didn't do anything of note. Running our tailbacks clearly wasn't part of the game plan, but it doesn't mean any of them are busts. His stats were in line with what ballard and perkins did both last night and against Memphis, so I don't know how you can say he's clearly the third best RB.

backup. Right now he is our best option as a "starter" but should split time with Perkins and Ballard. I assume Mullen's starts Elliot because of his experience and low turnover ratio. From what I've seen of Perkins & Ballard they will develop into solid RBs (maybe even a starter) but nobody as separated from the pack yet.

knee injury or not I have a hard time believing that Elliot has met many people's expectations since he has been in the program. I'll guess we'll just have to let the season play out and see what he does, but I don't expect too much.
