By winning do we lose?

you never want to see your team lose, but at the same time sometimes losing is necessary for building a better future. I'm so torn this season. I've never been a KF supporter and I finally feel like this is as close as we've come to foreseeing not him being removed after this season. I might be in he minority, but I have good faith that the next coach can finally be one who can really set this program up for long-term success. I've heard from good sources what the thinking is for our next step (this was a few weeks ago) and it's exciting. The problem is, wins like yesterday start to make getting rid of KF a little more difficult.

So my question is: would you all prefer that we suck this year if it means a better future where KF is nowhere around here?

I always want Rutgers to win...even if it means pissing off people that would rather see rutgers lose in order to change coaches.

I've said this before and I'll say it again! KF is not in anyway a good coach so he needs to have good assistants around him. Offensively he has McDaniels who is a great OC but on the other hand Rossi is still trying to find himself. As long as KF has good assistants around him we will win. As much as I am skeptical of KF one thing is for sure the players play for him and that is very evident. We are not going to get anything better than KF right now. Once the B1G money starts rolling in then we can discuss options, but for now we are going to have to roll with KF for as long as the players are willing to fight till the last minute for him. If we're going to do anything for next year it should be a proven DC.

Never, no. Play to win, cheer for the team, let the chips fall where they may.

No, we are playing some talented younger kids. If we had a lot of seniors playing I would think we would be in trouble.

...I prefer to build our program with the coach we have, if possible....dont want to sacrifice any season..... many a coach started slowly
with wins and losses, and got it going over time.....we were 8-5 last year and 3-3 this year....not the worst thing

Flood has all the players loving him and I don't think he has a lot of high school coaches hating him..... lets see what he can do from here for a while

edit:.... I hated this question in past years, and hate it now....any fan rooting to lose should not
watch anymore this year.

If Flood does get canned, it is going to be a tough year for RU to find a new head coach. There are going to be many more desirable positions available so it might make sense to wait another year.

Were you beaten up and bullied as a child?...you just proved what some have said about this FREE board...some of Rutger's fans do suck.

I want Flood to be fired because I think he cannot win enough games. But if he proves me wrong, and he actually wins enough games, then I have no reason to want him fired.

Win every game we can. At the end of the year, like with every coach in every sport, they will be evaluated. If Rutgers thinks that they have a better coach that they can afford then they can make a change. But that can be done whether the team wins 4 games or 8 games.

We see coaches move on every year after great seasons. We see coaches fired every year after good seasons, when administrations and fans have higher expectations.

A couple with direct implications to Rutgers is Fridge being fired at UM after 7 wins and winning ACC Coach of the Year. Coach P being fired at Syracuse after consistent good seasons (and great seasons when he had a QB).

Never root against "our" team. Winning every game going forward has nothing to do with current contracts or other coaches that may or may not be available. And who knows, we just may have a coach that everyone wants to get behind if we continue to win games.

Can we do better than Flood? Of course we can, but where is the money coming from? If the administration wanted to get rid of him, they had plenty of ammunition to do it and it ain't happening. For all his faults, he seems to have learn from his mistakes. His recruiting has picked up, players like playing for him, seems to have an eye for talent and seems to be a nice, genuine guy that cares for his players. Is he stubborn, yes he is, and he's not going to change, it is who he is. Did we all want Rettig to get a shot, of course, but Laviano has proven to be a good QB. Do we want more of Hicks/Martin, last game showed that as Martin received the majority of the carries. The D seems more aggresive and that can be attributed to the secondary getting more and more experience.

Flood seems to have built good relationships with the HS coaches, has an eye for talent, good guy who has shown the ability to learn and change. Who do you want to bring in and where is the money coming from? As one of the above posters mentioned, upgrade the assistants, we probably have money for that at this stage. Baby steps, Flood gets another year and if than he fails than we will have the money to get someone that won't be a band-aid fix.

Sure. Losing all our games would result in getting a higher draft pick. I hear Joey Bosa's going to be a Top 3 pick next May. With him in the fold, I'm sure Rutgers can get a future HOF coach to come here and deal with the Star Ledger for less than a million per year.

This again? This isn't the NBA. You aren't getting a lottery pick if you go 2-10. Losing isn't going to guarantee that Nick Saban or some other big time coach is going to come here. Rooting for the team to lose is pretty asinine.

Are you kidding? They'll be knocking down the doors. "I don't need a $2.5 million salary, I'll do it for $500k. And I'll throw in cleaning Steve Politi's bathroom as well".

+1

Just look at how much damage the 2013 win against USF inflicted on the program. Flood would have been gone already and we would have had a chance to turn the program around. This "win" is very much the same. Coming back by such a deficit excites the fan base, but they forget that IU blows and beating them isn't a big deal.

So yes, the most important objective is to get rid of Flood and turn the page.

You have to go for WINS,whatever happens.I am not advocating dumping Kyle, neutral on that, but many teams have gotten rid of HC'S,at years end,Who had quite good records,Zook,Pellini and Salich come to mind and I am sure there are more. Play out this season,WIN as many as is possible and as said in a post here, evaluate the situation and do what is in the best interests of the FOOTBALL program.

Never root for Rutgers to lose, no matter what.
However, this is not like 2013 when we were playing in a depleted AAC conference and that win over a frozen USF team saved coach Floods job. We still have the very real challenges of Michigan, OSU, Wisconsin, and Nebraska coming up on our schedule, as well as very beatable Army and Maryland teams. Steal one of the former, win both of the latter, and show improvement in individual/team competitive play in the rest, then maybe a justification can be made to keep the HC for next season. Anything less than that, and his fate should be sealed.
I'll enjoy the games and see what happens.

 Never want to have Rutgers lose any of the games it plays in any sport, for any reason.

well,if you want mediocrity then flood is your man. everyone says he won 8 games last year so you need to keep him. we did not beat a winning team last year and got blown out by the good teams. we beat Indiana yesterday but you have to admit that all the Indiana miscues won us that game. how many games are we going to score on a bad snap on a punt ? we played a uninspired MSU team that was looking ahead to Michigan and had a ton of injured guys. we played them close but fell to another winning team. flood will beat most of the bad teams but cant beat a good team. is this what we want ? I don't !! I don't think we will go to a bowl game this year and flood will be canned. he needs to go.

So he gets blamed when we don't play top teams tough and no credit when we do. That sounds fair.

I want to say this:

If you are sorry we won because YOU want to get rid of the coach in early October when there is still much to play for, then you are a ****** "fan" .

End of story.

Might be better for the "fans" that want losses in a hope that Flood be gone, be gone themselves until Kyle gets the boot or defies logic and proves he's the man to bring RU FB up to the Championship level.Next we'll start seeing posts about everyone should boo a RU player, because the poster(s) want someone else in there.[sick]

The small but vocal minority who bash Flood incessantly aren't intelligent enough to understand this.
