There are some issues with the bill. Doing away with fines is stupid. Its like pulling teeth to get schools to turm in things or update max preps, if we dont have fines itll be even worse. A demerit system leading to forefeits, etc is even dumber, as you would now be directly punishing kids who had no hand in violations.
We have people making laws who have only a limited idea of what is actually going on. Same thing they do with education. Its basically a group of irate parents trying to take over but knowing just enough to be dangerous.
That being said, something should have been done about charters long ago. However, i think there needs to be verbage that would include county wide prep schools with no set attendence district like WS prep. They are a huge problem too.
I also dislike the use of anything other than numbers to divide the classes. I like more oversight and less the NCHSAA governing itself in the appeals process. I like more accountability.
Its the chickens coming home to roost for the NCHSAA. Much like the NCAA and its NIL issue, by waiting and constantly ignoring a problem theyve been told about for years, theyve had it taken out of their hands. That is funny to me. While I dont think the GA ca run sports better, I have never been a fan of the NCHSAA.
Whether this passes, i dont know. i dont think it was going to in its previous form. Gonna be interesting. if nothing else, I hope it kick starts the nchsaa to finally adress the charter issue.
One last thing- what bothers me is that the NCHSAA doesnt deal hardly at all with recruiting, eligibiltiy etc. They put it all off on the LEAs. To me a coach/captain retreat or small scholarship is great but what they SHOULD be doing is ACTUALLY ENFORCING THE RULES.
I hope if it does pass they wait 2 years to implement the new format, as scheduling etc is so far along that it would create chaos otherwise.
