Gary Patterson is out at TCU after 20 years as coach of the Horned Frogs, the school announced on Sunday night.

In meeting with the longtime coach Sunday, school officials asked Patterson to finish this season, but he declined. Instead, Patterson, who coached in the Horned Frogs' 31-12 loss at Kansas State Saturday, will be replaced by Jerry Kill, an assistant on his staff, on an interim basis for a team that is 3-5 overall, and 1-4 in the Big 12 this season.

Wow!

Kinda felt he'd be like Snyder at KSU and would stay until he retired. He's definitely put TCU on the map but I guess we all reach that point. Would be a great pickup for somebody as he still has quite a few years left.

About the same age as Don Nehlen. I think Don may have been 4 or 5 years older when he was done at WVU.

I have to disagree with you here, Greg. Patterson had some great seasons in lesser conferences and early on in the Big 12, but his program has fallen off of a cliff since do-it-all QB Boykin left. He might have read too many of his own press clippings and became more interested in becoming a bad country music singer than coaching up his team, which usually has plenty of NFL talent.

Definitely don‘t disagree that dumping him isn’t warranted. I’m just thinking they could do worse. I experienced the ridiculous AD coach firing misstep at Pitt which set the program back 10 years all because expectations were to have a Top 10 program. While Penn State imploded Pitt AD fvcked the entire program up and we lost an opportunity to take a major step forward.

Agree. Definitely felt that the offensive game passed Patterson by the past 3-4 years. I think they should go after an offensive-minded coach like Yurcich or Kendall Briles. Hell, I’d even go after Art Briles.

Why would WVU hire someone they have given a beatdown 5 of last 6 years and 4 in a row?

Art Briles will never coach in Big 12 again. You can close your thoughts on that book. Maybe Marshall should try him.

Kendall Briles is currently OC at Arkansas. Why would he leave there to coach in a conference daddy is not allowed in?

Allen I didn‘t say anything about WVU hiring Patterson. As I’ve said many times Brown deserves a full five or six year period to get this done. I was just surprised because Patterson is a fine coach. My point about TCU could do worse was in relation to Pitt A.D. butchering the hiring process after Wanny and then taking a Top 20-40 hoop program under Dixon and watched it implode under Stallings. The jury is out on Capel but year 4 not looking good. Thought that was clear but apologies if it wasn’t.

After thinking about it, I'm not sure how to feel about Patterson. I can understand him feeling like he has been done dirty after 20 years and wanting to tell admin to shove off. However it also feels like his personal gripe is taking precedent over the team that assembled to play for him. I think I fall more on the side that Patterson should take the high road here and finish leading the guys he recruited, especially the seniors, to the end of their college careers.

If I am paying you 50 dollars a hour I expect that in return

Especially when my overall budget has been cut in half

Can pay someone 20 and get the same result
Making 6 million a year. There isn’t a non P4 school who will pay that for 6-6 seasons

Neal Brown makes 4 right now under his new contract
Actually making less than 3 in 2021
So making 100% less than GP and getting nearly the same results

You have to laugh how a spitt fan on a WVU board 24/7 says WVU fans have spitt on the brain for simply bringing them up.

I know bitchgregor is a worthless troll...but good grief...

Sounds like one those liberals who think anyone who doesn’t agree with their brainless narratives are a “racist”

Had a few black girls bounce on this. Was this Filipino girl who was a straight Daddy’s girl. Had coffee stained teeth at 23 but her family owned a good size construction company. She bounced on it as well. Made a few girls speak Spanish when they were bouncing on it
Equal opportunity in my days before I married

You're the lowest form of human life, TrollVanZandt. Everybody knows that you're a Marxist, but here you are hiding behind your D!ckHead alter to create yet another false persona. You're not fooling anybody, and have never fooled me. I hope that you enjoyed what happened in Virginia yesterday. Your leftist heroes won't be in power for long.

Not at all. I just like to call out frauds, especially the ones who think that they're smarter than everybody else, and feel compelled to mention me in discussions that have nothing to do with me.
