Byron, Where do you rank them?

They beat ICCP by 20.

ICCP beat 5a St Francis by 7.

ICCP lost to Naz by 3 who is in the top 10 overall.

Don't you have to put Byron in the top 10 or near the top 10 overall?

Byron is outstanding and imho definitely a top 20ish type team, but let’s see how that Richmond-Burton game goes.

So you believe in the transitive property of these games, but not for ranking Loyola? Interesting.

Fair to say. Remember Byron is a 3a public school who has played 3 CCL playoff games the last 3 years and won 2 of those games and lost 1 of those games by 2 inches on the last play of the game.

They also won the 3a state title two years ago and scored 70 points in that game.

I would say this is an outstanding team resume.

Assuming they beat RB, but if they don’t, then the question becomes where do you rank the winner of next weeks game. That team is certainly the best in 3A. Moving up, thy could be the best in 4A except for Montini , which is really rolling as their QB has another year of experience. I can’t speak for Rochester as I have not seen them this year. Once you get to 5A and above, player size, roster size and depth take over. Think of an IC with a 200+ burner at RB, a bigger mobile QB and enough big linemen that only a couple have to play both ways

IC beat 5a St Francis and played well against 6a Naz. Both St Francis and Naz are in the semi's.

Byron just beat IC by 20 points.

Just saying that Byron is a one dimensional run only team. Once you start moving up in class, those bigger deeper teams can take that away. I think they would be overrun by the likes of PR or CG in 5A. IC was able to hang with better teams with their explosive pass game playing near perfect football with no drops or stupid penalties.

Don’t care about last two years if talking about ranking them in 2025.

I disagree. I think they can hang in 5a. SF is still playing. Naz is still playing. Where is CG and PR?

Byron is just really solid and would be competitive with almost anyone, but there are teams that would be able to physically stop them. Granted, not many, but the top tier ones would shut them down. Eventually the dudes outweigh the X’s and O’s.

I’m not factoring in one teams (IC) previous success. If a run only team at any level has to play a team that has a thirty or more pound advantage of athletic linemen across the board and those guys don’t have to play both ways, you’re gonna have a tough time moving the ball. And likewise, they are going to move the ball against the smaller team. That’s why the have classes

Agreed about your point of teams having to play both ways. This is true for playing up classes and having to win 5 games in a row. This is not true for just one game.

JCA primarily ran the ball. They have like 15 state titles playing in different classes. I have at times seen them beat 7a and 8a schools during the regular season.

I'm following Montini the last few years, so I've seen Byron live twice. I've also seen the CCL schools Montini plays, including great teams like Fenwick, big schools like Marist, and star players like Taylor at Carmel. Additionally, I get to a lot of Palatine games, so I've seen Fremd, Barrington, Maine South, Warren, LWE the last two seasons.

Byron was 100% legit. This Montini program that has won 22 games in a row escaped Byron by inches. Their style of play could make it hard to come back from a deficit. But play to play, they can line up and smash it out with the best of them. I'm not saying they'd beat those big Palatine opponents. But based on their enrollment, if you want to rank them pretty high, I'm all for it. Nothing but respect for those guys.

Byron doesn't necessarily have the best athletes, but what sets them apart from everyone else is how smart they play. Those kids have discipline and mental toughness that allows them to beat more talented teams. Coaching? You bet.

Not taking anything away from Byron but for this year and the past 3 they have had a generational player on the team in Considine. I wish them and him nothing but success and safety in the remaining games they play.

While he is a very nice player...there are loads of other players in that program. All of the long runs sayruday vs IC were from other backs. Their QB is a sophomore, two way starter and a first team all-stater.

Furthermore, Coach Considine has triplet boys coming up as well.

Byron is going to be loaded for years to come.

You have to understand that once you get up on teams like Byron by two scores, their offense changes completely. Montini was not able to do it either of the last two years. But when you look at teams like Naz it comes becomes a very different game

I'm gonna throw this conspiracy theory out there. What do Byron,Wilmington,Coal City,Morris and Seneca have in common? They all have nuclear generating stations in their backyards🤣 They're radioactive mutants. Can't really explain what happened to Minooka or Reed-Custer though.Maybe those 2 are getting too much fallout.

Does the state give them $$$ for having those plants?

Byron’s facilities were shocking for a 3A school.

Byron gets about $18 million a year from the Byron station alone. Wilmington gets ZERO $ from the Braidwood station.
Yep
Reed Custer gets about $19 million from Braidwood Station and Coal City gets about $17 million from Dresden.

So Byron chooses to stay natural grass? With that kind of cash coming in would think they would change to turf. But then I guess those random storms wouldn’t have the same effect 🤣

What is really nice is the sideline for both sides is now turf. That was part of the 4m offseason renovation. It’s a very nice grass field. Don’t think turf is necessary

FWIW, I don’t believe Byron would ever water their field for an advantage.

I thought that was a Metamora thing before they got turf?🤣

That was a joke I saw on here. Byron doesn’t need to do anything for an advantage, they’re good!

Turf seems pretty nice though. RB just finished their stadium renovations this year, and changed to turf back in 2022, it’s a beautiful facility!

How many players will Byron loose this year besides Considine? IC only played four seniors this year so they should be ok next year

While the general consensus certainly favors Byron and IC in 3A, R-B will also return A TON next year. 3/4 of the team will be coming back including the junior RB that is really good. Going to be a lot of fun in 3A North again next year!
