There isn't a power plant within Wilmington School District boundary lines. Why would they get anything from them?
Thought it was in the district...can someone explain why a power plant would give Byron that much $$$?

Are their other companies that give large sums like this to school districts as well?

It's property taxes mostly.

It’s property and corporate tax. Power plant pays the same cut as any other business and their tax portion is divided up like any other as well, except that their revenue is more than like, all the Chicago loop area. Never been to Byron, but I bet you won’t find to many unmaintained crappy streets or shoddy playground equipment either. It’s like Richmond Il has a nice downtown district, some small business, maybe a Menards and car dealerships. Byron has a nuke plant. And an aquatic center

Here is another factor to consider in outcome of Byron-IC game. Facing IC in the playoffs was on Byron's radar since this summer and hence, preparation began for it at that time.
Compared to antiquated coaches who insist on never looking ahead and playing one game at a time (no matter how bad an opponent is), this progressive strategy by Byron paid dividends in how well-prepared they were against IC.
Other than Dixon, it was given that Byron was going to blow everyone else away on their schedule (50-7 average score). So, why waste extra time for inferior opponents when the overall emphasis needs to be on a state title.
On the other hand, IC had to concern itself with navigating the brutal CCL schedule to ensure they even make the playoffs. Their prep for Byron had to be considerably less.
Ironically, IC had the advantage of facing tougher opponents and being more battle-tested. In the end, that was not as important as the Xs and Os.

Being battle tested certainly has its benefits. We saw that in the Wilmington vs. Seneca game. Seneca breezed through an easy conference and came into the Wilmington game with a confidence that wasn't hard to gain. Some of their fans, as I read on FB, just couldn't understand how that could happen. Byron on the other hand proves to be a consistent player in the state when it comes to the lower divisions. What would a game between Byron and some smaller, but arguably just as dominant, schools look like? Byron vs. Stockton, Le-Win, or Wilmington to name a few.

It's hard to "rank" them, but they've given Montini everything they could handle, and we know they've been a powerhouse team.

Definitely top 10 in IL.

What impresses me about Byron (amongst other things) is their ability to run the Wing T and yet play great defense vs spread teams (IC & Montini). Extremely rare in small school football. Helps that the DC played DB in the NFL.
