You're an idiot. Only two teams in the WHC are 1A, and only one, Mitchell, will make the playoffs. James Kenan, Wallace-Rose Hill, Tarboro, and Whiteville would wipe the floor with Mitchell. These teams would do the same with your little 2A sisters too. The thing is that Mitchell will never make the state championship game. East Surry or West Montgomery would beat them before they make the championship game.

Then you have never watched Mitchell this year. Our talent is good across the board. The best all around team in 1a football I have seen in a long time. And guess what it is deep as well too. We got 5 rbs that sub in and out as starters. Guess 5 isnt deep enough for you. Our Jv team is talented as well. The only thing we do not have much depth in is lineman next year. And that may change between now and then. But we graduate alot of good lineman this year. And btw do you even know how many freshman/sophomores we have on this team? Yea get some facts man get some facts.

I, along with all the other East Surry posters on here, know that polls don't mean anything. As soon as you get wrapped up in the polls and start looking ahead to playoff matchups you are sure to stumble. Polls is what I like to call pleasant distractions and window dressing. Polls and message boards have a lot in common as far as public opinion. They are all a select group of peoples opinions and leave a lot open to suggestion and debate. In Pilot Mountain we love our boys and support them to the end just as I am sure you do your team. Our group is a close knit bunch as I am sure yours is and our fan base is excited about the potential as the season progresses. Teams that have had long term success know that the respect they get from other teams is not based on one season but rather staying power each year. I hope you are building that and from the sound of your post it sounds like you are. East Surry and West Montgomery have some history with each other and both programs mutually respect each other because we have battled and have been towards the top for several years. Being at the top doesn't mean you can't and won't stumble. We can speak to that from last season and I am sure West Montgomery people feel like they could have played better in their third round game last season. Point I am making is don't be so quick to get tore up over comments and understand that it takes time to earn the respect of some people. Respect does not mean that anyone fears you though. I am a Mitchell fan but by no means do I think that Mitchell is the favorite to make it to the championship, but I do think if things fall the right way and we get some lucky breaks it is possible for us to get there. All the talk about how we've never had success and stuff before this year is not really true, this particular team has never been past the second round, but since we became a 1a team for the first time 6 or 7 years ago we made a western championship in which we lost to a Albemarle team that went on to win state and we had a team that led Swain until the final minute in a 3rd round game and Swain went onto to win the championship, so it's not like this is the first time we've ever been successful. And for us playing in a weak conference, our last or next to last place team last year Avery went to a very good East Surry and beat them as a 15 seed last year in the first round and Mountain Heritage played for the state 2a championship out of our conference just a few years ago. Main reason Mitchell hasn't had as much deep playoff success until recently was just the depth of the 2a playoffs compared to 1a, most recent 2a playoff losses I remember were to the likes of Lincolnton, Maiden, and Shelby, it's just a different animal in 2a. I know all the vitriol on here is probably due to some of our posters becoming a little to proud and for that I apologize, but we are also not as bad of a team or conference as some others on here seem to think. Anyway it's a long row to hoe from here anyway and doesn't really matter what we think right now as it will all play out, good luck to everyone and hope everyone has a good rest of the season.

When did Swain beat WM to win State?? Not sure I remember that one... And we hear the same ol' mess year in and year out. It's a different year. Last time I checked there's quite a few games yet to be played. Again, Mitchell will be gone in the second round. Playing the teams they play isn't a measuring stick. Not saying that WM is playing anything resembling a tough conference schedule. But, not one person on this board who has seen WM can say they have played a complete game this year. The pieces are in place and the coaching staff in my opinion is the best in all of 1AA. I for one hope that Mitchell makes and WM does too. Nothing I love more than hearing how long of a drive it is and how powerful strong those mountain boys are. And then see them walk off the field, winded, tired and remarkably out of shape. Starmount was a senior laden team last year and pulled a close win out. As far as the rest of that mountain crew check the playoff record that WM has against them the last few years. Mitchell, good luck. Seems there's quite a few bumping their gums and not to be disrespectful but honestly what have y'all ever won in any sport??? Girls basketball maybe??? Cross Country????

There ya go. I still stand firm and say that WRH or JK will take the 1AA. Those two are deep, talented and very well coached. It's a different game down there. 2AA will be getting some serious contenders next realignment. NC's 2A/2AA division is the most competitive top to bottom in the entire state. 1A/AA is weak for the first two rounds. Way too many teams make the playoffs. If you aren't .500 stay home.

I am not upset. All I am doing is showing facts to people with bad opinions. Everyone has been down on Mitchells schedule when in fact it is a good schedule for a 1a program.

And guess what those chinks are? As I have said coaching....
The 4th down play in the second half was a turning point that coach pitman should of called a timeout and insured the coverage was there. Polk played a great game. But lets not forget that if we had stopped that 4th down attempt the game would of been a very different outcome. Thats what I've been saying all along. Conf. play is not all about records or anything of that matter. It only takes 1 play to turn a half into your favor. Mitchell looked great in the first half and worried in the 2nd half

Maybe you should look up state champions before you as you call it "bump your gums". Mitchell has had one of the best wrestling programs in the state. And just last year they had a few football players win state titles in wrestling and as a team they won state. But just cause you are ignorant to stuff you even talk about doesnt make what you say true.
Mitchell still has problems. Coaching is our weakness. I have said coaching will make or break this team.

I thought that WMYA did an outstanding job with their first WNC Thursday night broadcast last night, so Kudos to them....Also enjoyed Kenny Ford's commentary during the game as he brought a great prospective of each team, and some of the players....Thought the McKinney and Self kids were pretty stout on defense, considering that both are only juniors....And then there's that Sophomore QB Ben Young.....Young man is a player, and will only get better from here on out....Thought that Jamal Wheeler really caught a lot of people's eyes last night too as he was outstanding...

As for Mitchell County winning or playing for a state title?....

Nobody knows what will happen the rest of the year, or what kids may get hurt?....Hope the Greene kid that got injured last night will be alright....Mitchell has a stable of quick and hard-running RBs, and a big OL in front of them....The Mountaineers offense is going to be hard too stop, especially with Young under center....

As for the Defense, it will be hard to run the ball up the middle against the Mountaineers, but a versatile QB like Wheeler could give the Mounties some problems, and I think that we all saw that last night....

It's going to be interesting to watch this Mitchell team come playoff time....

Since Andrews has played Mitchell and seen for ourselves how good they are, I can say that they can deal with the best of the SMC. We have played Rosman and Robbinsville which are currently our top 2 teams and I think Mitchell could play with either. We will play Murphy and Swain the next 2 weeks and will be able to speak of them after that. As of right now the SMC has beat each other so bad the conference will be in bad shape come playoff time due to all the injuries. Good luck to all, still plenty of football to play

I am a Mitchell fan and probably the biggest fan. I have 2 kids on the team and Pitman is close family. I like to come on here and read about football but it is a shame that there is so much hate over what is supposed to be a fun game for kids to play and fun for adults to watch. The name calling on here is so childish I mean come on lets act like adults please. The coach is always an easy person to blame win or lose. Every fan will never agree with the coach no matter what his decision. What is a shame also is 99% of the people fussing about it would not spend the time or effort doing the things they do. I don't think anyone is an idiot because they come a discussion board and give an opinion. I wish this thread would have never been started because I garantee you that most Mitchell fans don't expect us to make the west finals muchless win it. A Mitchell fan did not even start this thread. I will be happy with a win this Friday and move on one game at a time. Good luck tonight to WM, ES and all other posters teams on here. I hope the games are played for fun and injury free. As far as titles for Mitchell team titles I know just by memory that we have 3 team wrestling titles 89,14 and 15(should be highly favored this year also). 2 girls basketball 96 and 04 I think but can't remember the years for sure. 2010 football lost to eventual champs Albemarle, 2011 lost 3rd round to eventual champs Swain.

Yes they did have a couple of bad years. 12 and 13. But one thing hardly anyone knows is that our current head coach was the play caller of some of the previous head coaches time there. The reason I have listed the coaching as a problem is that they are not yet proven. Mitchell has been in a few big playoff games in the prior 6 years. And aside from the 2010 season (Mitchell was just that big of a underdog so it didnt matter where they placed) coaches have let us down.
Even in the game on tv. one of the announcers said, Mitchell is playing not to lose instead of to win. While I do like what Pittman has done so far and think he is going in the right direction, I have to say im a facts kind of guy. He is 0-1 in big games (playoffs). Last year he took a good offence and failed to put up a single point in the 2nd round playoff game. Am I saying that he should of won that game? No, but I am saying that Mitchell was not outplayed nor our skilled any where near enough to be shut out. And I could go on and on here but my point is not to down the coaching staff. it is just to speak the truth. They are better than what we have had at the school but I am not sold on them. They have a great team this year and we shall see if the staff proves itself or not again.

Mitchell will face a team if they dont get put out early that will be just as good or better than them and a good coach will have ways to help his team out. You must have atleast 1 play each week that no one knows you have. Or that your team is great at doing. Like the HB passes of the 90s MItchell teams.. It always has to be the coaches fault somehow though. It could never be players learning a whole new offense or a freshman QB being nervous in a playoff game. I guess it is very easy to sit at home in comfort while the playoff game was played at about 10 degree temps. They appreciate your support Mr. Big Fan(radio).

watched the highlights of the Polk Co game.....the QB for Polk looked like he gave MC a lot of trouble with his foot speed....is he the best player in that conference?

I would say it would be between him and Tre Robinson from Heritage and Michael Schmidt from Hendersonville as far as the best skill player in the conference, but I would say he is hands down the best athlete in the conference. So far this year athletic qbs have been our biggest problem, we get pressure quickly on almost every play because of our strong line, but we are having trouble containing the corner after the qb is pushed out of the pocket leading to big runs and pass plays.
