I am not going to argue with you. but to clarify...

As stated - this is what UConn would do with our schedule - in their DREAMS.

if you read my post I make that quite clear. this is not my opinion of what I realistically think would happen. honestly, I think they finish with the same record (or maybe even 1 less win)

re: "What makes you so sure they win either ROAD game at Temple or BC let alone both?" again, if you read my post, I make it clear that I directly question whether this is even possible - I specifically question whether they could really beat BOTH Nebraska and Indiana AND I directly question whether they would REALLY beat all three of our non-conf games (or finish a more realistic 2-1).

"what makes you so sure" - I made it quite clear that I was questioning whether this scenario was even possible - but that it was the absolute best they could POSSIBLY do with our schedule in their DREAMS. I dont think I could have made that more clear. LOL

the fact you are labelling this dream scenario as "silly" illustrates my point - with our schedule they would only get to 5 wins in their DREAMS but more likely 3 or 4 wins

Not saying I’d rather be their program over the long term. You will see above I said we are much better off in the Big10 than not.

I’m saying that right now, UConn is a better team and program. It’s just a fact that we are crappy and getting worse with Schiano at the helm. No OC, no QB recruits, no expectation or evidence of anything more than a HS offense again.

They beat BC by 10 and have a Top20 win.

This may change when Schiano leaves but until then UConn will be more successful.

I hear you. My point is that if lines for all the games were set right now based on the season - 5 wins for them would be a very unlikely outcome with our schedule meanwhile Vegas would almost certainly have us penciled in for 6+ wins with their schedule. That’s why the notion that they’ve “passed us by” is so ridiculous and your post which points out the “punchers chance scenerio” unintentionally feeds into this.

We’d be favored BIG against UMass, Central CT, Ball State and FIU (4 games). Favored at home against Boston College and Liberty (2 more games). Probably favored at Army. Fresno at home and at Utah State would be the 50 / 50 games. Syracuse would be favored vs us in Piscataway but the line wouldn’t be like the BIG lines. Basically only the Michigan game and at NC state would be “unwinnable”. And NC State would still be less of a reach than half our schedule. Meanwhile, despite making a bowl game, I honestly don’t think UConn would be favored against anyone on our schedule except Wagner.

They beat BC at home and with a much depleted roster than when we played them due to injuries. Horrible take there.

Temple 28, UMass 0; UConn 27, UMass 10. Not sure UConn would have beaten a Temple team that hung with Houston and ECU and took Navy into overtime (the same Navy that took Army, a team that destroyed UConn, into OT).

Just so we’re clear - are you saying I’m wrong about what the Vegas lines would be today or that Vegas would get it wrong? How many games on our schedule besides Wagner do you honestly think UConn would be favored in if the odds came out today?

We would still be favored vs Temple and home vs Indiana. They wouldn’t.

Hardly. Who would have won, Cooney or Pacquiao ? See my point ? The question isn’t who would win, it’s who is more competitive relative to the competiton ?

Who would win, the Houston Texans or Alabama ?

Nevermind that UConn might actually beat us, they are certainly more competitive against their level of competition.

The objective is to win football games, and for as long as Schiano is here, UConn will win more games.

No - it’s not the same as your examples. Both play FBS college football. Just because they are able to stock up on wins over UMass and company doesn’t make them a better program. They are not bound by a conference because nobody wants them in this case the flexibility allowed them to set up the weakest schedule imaginable.

I don't think I agree. The Vegas odds are based solely on what will attract an equal number of money on both sides, and bettors are not wholly objective in placing their bets. Often sentiment (am I a Rutgers fan or an X fan?) will play a role in what a bettor does. The odds have to account for that, and so the odds are not objective measures.

So it doesn’t matter to you who wins more ? You think it’s better to get crushed week after week, year after year than to win and get to bowl games.

Great, why don’t you take up a collection for Schiano’s contract extension and raise ! By your measure of success, he’d be a national coach of the year shoo in.

Fresno was minus their senior QB who was injured a week or two before:
They were undefeated after his return. My advice is to ignore that imbecile and the Walmart greeter named Shelby65. The tree stump in my yard has more insight than those two combined.

Edit: A Walmart greeter just messaged me and was highly offended that I compared his intellect to Shelby65. So hence I had to edit my post above. Sorry for the offending remark.

I also predict you will conveniently forget your 2022 opinion in a few years when it finally dawns on you that he’s accomplished little more than annual Wagner routs and stale Keep Choppin quotes.

He reminds me of the lame tough guy Robert Conrad battery commercials ‘go ahead, knock it off I dare you’ but instead ‘go ahead, fire me I dare you’ because he knows we can’t afford to.

Rutgers is the #115 ranked football team at season’s end. This is after Year 3 of Schiano. If ongoing losing doesn’t bother you then continue with your loser mentality.

I am a GS supporter. I do still believe that he can turn this program around. But............
I'm not someone who thinks that he is the ONLY person to turn it around. This non hire of an OC yet has really, really bothered me. Unless we are going to get someone who is involved in bowls that is just an out of this world hire (which I don't believe it will be), for me, there is no excuse after all this time and all the other hires we've seen that we don't have someone in place by now. If the OC is Nunzio that is a very, very bad sign for the program.
For me , I need to see some considerable progress next year. That means six wins and being competitive in at least 90% of our games. No more thirty to something losses to teams like Maryland and Minnesota.
We need a bowl game next year. I don't care where it is or who it's against, we need one to show some kind of upward trajectory.
All that being said to say that UConn is in a better situation then we are right now is insane. As I said earlier, if you are taking "paycheck games" from teams like Michigan you are not in a good place.

but when you say UConn has passed us by....you lose credibility and run the risk of having even your valid points ignored. but hey, if thats what you want - have at it.

Colby…better position? Doesn’t that actually mean ‘better positioned to win’? Is Schiano’s team better positioned to win ? No. Do you have some other definition instead ?

Besides, what’s the difference between a paycheck game and being noncompetitive and accomplishing nothing except cashing conference paychecks ? We play plenty more paycheck games than UConn if you count the conference games, right ?

I will give @Shelby65 credit . He doesn’t like what schiano is doing and has stuck to his guns . Whether he is right or not remains to be seen . But his commitment is admirable

Last year, UConn started 1-4, and finished 5-2, to earn a bowl spot.
Remaining games this year:

Utah State (winnable)
Rice (winnable)
USF (winnable)
BC (win)
Tennessee (loss)
James Madison (toss up, probable loss)
Sacred Heart (winnable)
UMass (winnable)

6 wins is doable.
