Please tell me where he stands in the Cal PG hierarchy……

I would say one of the most overrated (so they say) first round draft picks.

I don’t see it.

He isn't a point guard, he's a combo guard. He's a fantastic defender, a solid shooter and a very good assist/to ratio.
Those are all qualities I want in my point guard though.

My personal rankings of players put in the position of lead guard (based on performance while at UK) are:
Ulis
Wall
Knight
Fox
Teague
SGA
Andrew Harrison
Wallace
Briscoe
Hagans
Wheeler
Green
Harrow
Askew

I put Teague a bit higher than others would because I think he was the right guard at the right time. He wanted to pass first and shoot later and he did that really well, especially in the tournament. Wallace beats out Briscoe, for me, because while I love Briscoe’s fight he couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn unless it was layup and he was fascinated with stepping on the baseline.

Crazy that Cal has only had three legit pros at PG (and Bledsoe).

not gonna lie. I said from day one he needed to be the starting point guard over wheeler.

But the day he said he wanted to get out of here as soon as possible, he was dead to me. I don’t care where he stacks up. He shouldn’t be here in the first place.
He leads us to #9 you'd have to love him.

He's about average nothing to special. Second best player on a average team.

Probably Cals 8 best point guard.

The problem for Wallace is it took half a season before there was a commitment to play him there. He’s not gonna have time to master the position. That’s ultimately the problem with the team. It wasn’t until mid January that cal had an idea f what to do. Theoretically this team should be getting better by the game which was the case until vandy. I don’t buy all the people who say Wallace isn’t a pg. he’s not the guy to stand there and pound out the clock but when he moves the ball our team looks it’s best. If cal had committed to Wallace at pg and Livingston at the 3 early days on we would be in very good shape right now. Instead at the beginning of January or so cal is calling on fans to call out for Livingston. This season was a massive crap away

In fairness to Briscoe,, he played with 4 of the best guards ever to play at UK in Murray/Ulis and Fox/Monk.
He did his best as a"3" guard.
Briscoe committed to UK before Ulis ever played a game so I'm sure he thought at the time he'd be handed the reigns as a FR and the 5'9 Ulis would back him up.
Murray wasn't even on UK's radar at that time and I'm sure AB intended on being OAD.
Have heard rumblings that he was a pain in.the *** for the coaches but he was a good teammate on the court imo.

When he said he wanted to get out of here as fast as possible that was it. I don’t care to even remember him. But win while you’re here Wallace. It’s the least you can do.

Calipari is garbage for bringing in these kids that don’t value Kentucky. I’d rather run with Saul.
Every single recruit we have coming in next year, sans Reed, is going to have that same attitude.

None of these NBA potential type kids are invested here. They’re main concerns are, not getting injured and getting to the draft. They don't care about SEC titles and winning NCAAT games.

I enjoy Cason's game. As someone said, he is a 2, not a PG. Cal again tries to put square pegs in round holes.

Seen it too many times here, guys struggle at UK, then go to the NBA and kill it. Wallace fits that description. He has the frame and the game, but with this crap system Cal is running, there's only so much these guys can do.
Wallace might be one of the best point guards we have had on defense. I've been wowed several times by his defense at the rim. Seems effortless when he does it.

Brandon Knight would be the 5th. He almost made the All Star team in 2016. Averaged 14 and 4 over the course of a decade-long career. Not All-Star level, but legit.

Factor in Evans and Rose from his Memphis days, and about 30-40% the time over the last 15 years, Cal has had a fringe-level All-Star running the point guard position for his teams.

Jesus, he is only saying what most top frosh are thinking as they enter their one year of college.
Nothing about his effort has said he can’t wait to get out of here.

He plays both ends like a dog. If he is healthy this weekend I like our chances to see the sweet 16.
And as far OP, I would have Fox and SGA a little higher but I like the list.

They are all thinking it, and I can live with that. But to actually say it in an interview, before having never played a min, is a certain level tonedeafness I just will never respect. At least pretend. Your primary ball handler and floor general basically said he cares nothing for the school and winning. Shocking the season has gone the way it has. 🙄

Andrew Harrison is way too high. I think he was a bottom 3 starting point guard. Look at his fg% each season. It’s terrible. Not to mention he wasn’t a great defender (although better in year 2). And his assists weren’t high for a pg

You mean Livingston at the 4. Cal has been trying to shoehorn him into the three spot since the beginning of the year.

SGA was also much more well rounded both offensively and defense than Knight. Knights team was better overall.

Wallace has been average on D last month. Tells me he isn’t healthy.

This. Not healthy at all. Can see him constantly wearing that back wrap trying to keep his back warm. Anyone who ever experienced back issues knows how that physically and mentally effects you. It's stolen all that explosive athleticism we saw earlier.

Also some here including me pointed out that cals refusal to use thiero to spell the back court guys would have us going into post season worn down and injured. Happened to Wallace and I believe reeves had his legs go vs vandy which is why he went cold. Cal did the same thing last year

He will play in the league on account of his defense. Doubt he will ever be a starter.
I like Cason as a lead guard but have to disagree on his defense. He is decent on the ball defender but he does a terrible job of keeping an eye on his man and the ball allowing his guy to slip open way too often.

It will be the same with the next coach, if the next coach prioritizes the NBA like Cal does.

There are only a few coaches out there that use the NBA draft to attract players, most coaches out there prioritize their school.

Look at Brandon Miller, that guy isn't mailing it in, he's playing balls out every game. The guys at duke are also playing hard every game.

I think our guys play hard when they want to, but you can tell where their focus is. If we lose Friday night, I don't think it will bother a few of our guys, in fact, I wouldn't be surprised to find out they want this season to be over.

It doesn't help that Cal sensationalizes the negative comments fired at these players. He talks about it in every interview, but then tells his players to block it out. He's not blocking it out, he’s bringing it front and center constantly.

I think thats a product of Cal's defensive design more than anything.

You are spewing nonsense. You dont know if they care about winning a title or not. You can care about two things at once. Some people are so competitive that they absolutely want to win every single game they play. Some want to win a college title and go straight to the NBA. Going to the NBA and winning NCAAT games are not exclusive of each other.

All the proof you need to see is the video our NBA kids in the locker room in 2017 after losing to UNC.

I like Wallace but I dont think he does anything exceptionally well, hence why I dont think he will have very much success in the NBA. I dont see anything special about his defense. His lateral speed is average, and fast PGs seem to blow by him at ease.

He is a good shot blocker and has a good assist to TO ratio. But watching him live, I just am not blown away by anything specifically. I hope I am wrong and he takes us on a long ride in the tournament.

Who struggled here as frosh?
All our guys who have thrived in the NBA were amongst the best freshmen in the nation.

Bobby Knight once said the kids haven't changed, it's the adults that have changed.
I'm sure Bowie and Minniefield as 18-19 yr olds would have taken the money and gone the OAD route but no adults at the time were willing to make them millionaires based on potential.
I remember the Twins announced they would be spending the next 4 years at Kentucky.
Well Wallace is 9 years younger than the Twins so what can we expect kids to be saying 9 years from now?
This thing is not going to reverse course.

I get all that. My point is, at least pretend you are interested in the school that's paying you now. Pretend like winning matters. Not openly talk about getting out as soon as possible before ever having played min. It's a little thing called tact.
